There might be one other reason for the differing trends among the two networking sites. General observation suggests that a significant number of Twitter fans tend to use a mobile device (cell phone, blackberry etc.) to update their status while Facebook users are more equally divided between computers and cell phones. It is easy to see why travel related words are more prone to appear in the updates of those on the go compared to someone sitting at his/her computer in the office or home. Dont have any statistics to justify the point, but I have many friends on both networks to be able to observe the above trend!
