Cabbie drives 1,600 miles -- customer refuses to pay
Life as a cabbie is no walk in the park. They deal with drunk passengers, being robbed, and often spend part of their shift cleaning up puke in the backseat of their "office". The worst customers are probably those that take the cabbie for a ride. These thieves take advantage of taxi cab services, and run off without paying, when they reach their destination.
South Florida cab passenger Lucilo Perez (pictured here on the right) took things to the next level. Perez convinced cabbie Lelis Almeira to drive from Miami to Western Tennessee, without the means or intention of paying.
This is a 20 hour / 1,600 mile drive, and the cabbie had to pay for his own gas and food using his credit card.
When he arrived in Tennessee, the lady Perez was traveling to meet, said there was no way she'd pay for the cab. Apparently, Perez was under the impression that his lady friend would cough up the $3000 cab fare.
Memphis police arrested Perez, and he'll now need to find the cash to pay his cab driver. Meanwhile, the cab driver has lost all faith in humanity. Though I do feel sorry for him, the tough lesson here is to get a guarantee that you'll be paid - especially on a 1,600 mile journey.

Cab driver should never ASSUME the guy has 3000 to spend, should have gotten paid in advance, why not just put the guy on a bus?

I'm sorry, but I live in Memphis. If anyone every tries to get you to drive them here, with promise of payment, don't be so stupid. You'll never get your money.

Having been in the cab business myself If this Driver was stupid enough to NOT get paid up front he deserves to get screwed. If he drove one of MY cabs I would hold him accountable to ME It is just a shame that another human being would do this it sickens me and besides an asskicking I would have this guy prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law Merry Christmas

When I drove a cab I got stiffed twice for about $35 each, I learned quick to verify payment before I left, One guy tried 3 credit cards and they all were no good, I drove him 5miles from where he wanted to go and threw him out of my cab, This guy was dumb for not getting something up front

1600 miles in 20 hours. Um, let me check my math real quick. That would mean that he had to average 80MPH. With traffic, gasoline and restroom stops---it's near impossible. Further more, according to a Rand McNally road atlas, the distance from Miami to Memphis is only 1027 miles. Now I know cabbies sometimes take the long way around to run up the meter, but this is ridiculous. So what's wrong with this picture?
