1 - Find out what's going on close by. Not all travel trips are to lovely locations but if you're places like NYC, you might be able to catch a show at a good price or maybe see an exhibit at a museum you would have otherwise missed.
2 - Keep a book with you and go find some place to read like a public garden or coffee shop
3 - Walk around the place to familiarise yourself with the geography.
4 - Start a blog like I did :-)
