Miners accused of destroying part of Great Wall of China
It was built to keep out foreign invaders, but apparently the Great Wall of China can't protect itself from the greed of Chinese corporations. The Hohhot Kekao Mining Co. is accused of destroying 330 ft (100 m) of China's most famous structure while prospecting for gold. The damage occurred in Inner Mongolia, where the company is prospecting. This stretch of the wall is one of the oldest, dating to the Qin Dynasty (221-207 B.C.).
This isn't the first time the Wall has been damaged. Local farmers often steal stones for building materials, much like what happened to parts of Hadrian's Wall in England, and last year five miners were sentenced to up to three years in jail for damaging the Wall while operating heavy machinery nearby. Officials said those responsible for the new damage could face up to ten years because of the greater amount of destruction.
As China goes through its Industrial Revolution, its cultural heritage faces greater threats. The Industrial Revolution in England destroyed many of that country's ancient buildings and stone circles, and the expansion of St. Louis, Missouri, in the nineteenth century destroyed virtually all trace of a prehistoric Native American town. St. Louis used to be called "Mound City" because of the numerous prehistoric earthen mounds there, but now only one survives. it would be nice if China could learn from other countries' mistakes.

I am glad to hear that there are people that understand the history of this country and that no one here is truly from America.. So why all the hatred for others. I am a Native American, and I always wondered why the people that all came here harbor such anomosity for each other, instead of celebrating being free. If anyone has the "right" or could be understandably bitter it would be the Native Americans. Natives were were sold as slaves, they were denied access into stores and restaurants, they were killed in the most horrendous ways, and even today live in such severe poverty that it is akin to a third world country. Yet they are silent and accepting as our spirituality would tell us that no matter what happened in the past or is happpening today, our Creator will always set things back in balance. It is not up to us as people to do so. Those big corporations and the big money people that have no concern for others will eventually reap what they sow. If it isn't here, it will be somewhere else.( They better hope they reap their karma here, because that punishment may be nothing in this world compared to what we could go through on the other side.) Our Grandfather will always forgive us, but tells us we still need to take what we got coming, so to speak. Some will say what goes around eventually comes around. It's just too bad that it happens in the first place.

I think that the Great Wall of China is relatively useless nowadays. It can easily be flown over so I doubt if it will help to defend in any attacks against China. They might want to think about tearing it down if people need jobs. There might even be hidden treasure along with the bones of all those poor souls that had to help build it against their will. It's OK to leave the tourist sections up since they can still make money from it. No point in keeping the sections that are in need of repair because those parts are probably dangerous to the populace to be near in case they collapse.

"Anyone born here is a Native American" Nice, you mince words to avoid the truth. Why don't you just get a billboard in you yard that says "IGNORANT BIGOT LIVES HERE".

"Anyone BORN here is a native american. Look up the word "native."" @@@ Just how ignorant ARE you? Mincing words to avoid the truth just shows all of us even MORE of your backside...

What is insecure is someone who is Mexican referring to themself as "hispanic". How can you be ashamed of your own birth country? If you are, change it, don't come to the US and turn it into ugly, dirty, disease-ridden Tijuana.

the mex., dominicans, all south americans and even the coconuts use "hispanic" so they can pass for puerto ricans ,thus, an unquestioned entry to U.S.A. the cubans are notorious for using this ruse.we were allways here.you came from the ashole side of the ocean.go home.

I have the grasping knowledge in the C programming language. But about What the Miners accused of destroying part of Great Wall of China I really don't know. Is there any relationship regarding programming language ? If yes, post here.
