Most Junior High Schools in Japan hold a Culture Day Festival on the weekend before school (Kind of defeats the purpose of having a holiday during the week for those poor kids...) I teach at a school in Asakusa and their Culture Day featured Taiko drumming, jazz band, plays in both Japanese and English and dances. The kids prepare for Culture Day weeks in advance and it is a big deal to the school.
