First off- love your columns, just recently found 'Cockpit Chronicles' while geeking out on YouTube videos.
Regarding the message chime in Boeings, the engineer said people can't differentiate between more than 5 sounds?!
Really? As a musician I find this quite hard to believe!
In any case, then why not have up to 5 different chimes - w/ tones escalating in urgency the matter at hand?
Thankfully an ILS approach has at max 3 different tones! LOL
Keep up the good work and keep the shiny side up!

Thanks. I agree completely. At the very least, give us five different sounds. And some of the non-essential noises (winds uplink, route uplink, etc.) can certainly be eliminated.
