We sort of did the same thing that "Dian" mentions - and instead of around the world ours was around Europe. We went to http://www.redweek.com and scheduled a week at a time renting timeshares in various parts of Europe. For example, in Great Britain we stayed in London and in Canterbury, and we stayed in France and in Portugal, etc. A week at a time for 2 months. Each week in one spot gave us a real chance to immerse ourselves, and not only smell the coffee but really get to know local people, which of course was the best part.
