Hi Katie and Gadling! We at FareStart are so excited to be included in this list. Wow! To be in the company of all these fabulous restaurants is thrilling.
I wanted to let everyone know that FareStart is a job training and placement program for homeless and disadvantaged people, and those folks are working hard in the kitchen to prepare the food. However, there are FareStart staff members working with the students throughout their time in the kitchen -- helping them learn cooking skills, and to make sure that the product coming out of the kitchen is consistent and delicious. If you haven't been to FareStart for a while, I'll bet you'll see a big improvement.
The servers in our restaurant are not students in the program. At Guest Chef Night they are volunteers from a community group, and at lunch they are paid staff members. (ALL gratuities paid in the FareStart Restaurant go directly to the training program.)
We love to tell people about our program! Let me know if we can provide more information. I am karla at farestart.org.
