Iron Chef Morimoto working on skewered airport food
Celebrity chef Masaharu Morimoto has partnered with a restaurant operator to bring a new Asian inspired food concept to US airports.The concept is called Skewers, and it will feature a variety of meat and vegetables on...skewers, of course.
The meals will be served with rice bowls, and the idea is that this dish is highly portable and easy to bring on board your flight.
The skewered dishes are called Yakitori, and prices will range between $4.50 and $16.95. Morimoto predicts that Yakitori will be the next big wave, and fully expects it to be very popular.
Personally, I welcome any new food to the airport - we've had to deal with bad pizza and stale sandwiches for too long, though I do worry that this new food may be a tad aromatic. I really hate it when people bring strong smelling food on the plane (unless they bring enough for everyone). I also hope the TSA has no objection to wooden skewers. As of right now, no locations or dates have been announced for these new restaurants.

If you do go out to eat in a Restaurant, Don't forget to ask yourself if any of the meals you eat contain High Fructose corn syrup and Please read food labels carefully, Mercury contamination has been found in Fructose Corn Syrup,...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQQljmDfySQ

I hope the food is good. The Wofgang Punk restaurants at the airport are horrible. It was bland food spinkled with some salt and rosemary. I skip them and rather get a better meal at a TGIF, a fresh salad or even a McDonalds.

You people are dreaming if you think the Apes at TSA are going to allow anyone to bring a pointed stick on a flight. They don't even allow forks and knives on plane, but they are going to allow a miny spear with a peice of meat stuck in it>?
Get real, maybe in Asia or Europe, but sorry Septics not going to happen for you.

I'm sure when Morimoto is made aware of the skewer's potential of being used as some sort of a weapon >>>> He, and his partners will come up with a safer type of skewer.

Just flew out of the new 5/6 terminal at JFK (Jet Blue) and enjoyed wonderful cuisine at their new restaurants (choice of 5 themed restaurants). We ate at the Steak restaurant which was amazing, and the only thing related to airport cuisine PLASTIC knife "that's sort of a guarantees that the meat will be like butter!"

When I saw the teaser for this article; I was hoping it was someone like Paula Dean with some comfort food for folks who don't like being in airports anyway...after having a bad, bumpy flight, missing a flight or being delayed; eating some mashed potatoes & chicken w/unsweetened ice tea might just hit the spot! (Note/Disclaimer: I'm not a MD and you should not eat this way everyday and you might need to walk afterwards!)

I do not believe some people of what they are saying.. First of all it is true that planes might not allow anyone to take any pointed sticks on a plane, but has anyone thought of sliding them off the stick before boarding a plane, DUH?

Into WHAT??? Your hand? I would think that they've already thought of that and are making the screwers rounded on both sides and not in any way more dangerous than a #2 pencil, which you CAN bring onboard.
