It's a big office "no-no" for Americans to take prolonged vacations. Not only will your boss frown at it, your coworkers will guilt you to death. Anything more than one week away makes you a cubicle cancer.
I had an ex-girlfriend who was "let go" the day before our 11-day vacation to England despite her appropriate notice and the fact that it was unpaid leave. She was basically told not to return to work after our trip.
When Americans think great outdoors, they're more inclined to hit up Yellowstone or another gem in our expansive list of national parks. It's too bad that many "Americans" will never experience the Northern Territory.
