Photo of the Day (8-26-09)

Anyone who has traveled in a developing country may notice how this photo by TR Ryan captures perfectly the ingredients of every day village life. See it as a check list, if you will. Chickens? check. Goat? check. Plastic cup? check. Flip flops and bare feet? check and check. A bit of old rusty corrugate serving as a partial wall? check. Bicycle? check. It almost doesn't matter in which country the scene is set. The ingredients will be the same.
If Dutch painter Jan Vermeer were alive today, he'd turn this shot into a painting. Instead of the woman pouring milk into a bowl, as his subject does in, "The Kitchen Maid," he would encapsulate in oil and canvas the life of this woman where she lives in Villa Esperanza, Nicaragua ensuring that her children get a meal.
If you have captured a story in a photograph, send it our way at Gadling's Flickr photo pool. It may be chosen as a Photo of the Day.

Pictures shows the actual reality of village life, well it's also tells lots of to the modern era.

It certainly does. Wouldn't it be an interesting photo essay to take similar shots in various countries and various houses around the world? Some sort of old masters series. Anyone up for it?
By the way, I looked at that animal--the dog, not a goat for a long time. I swore it was a goat. It has something to do with the way that it is standing and its hind quarters. Of course, it's a dog. I must be half blind. Still, the dogs I know of in such scenes are that strange yellowish color. Poor dog. It sure is skinny.

There was a goat in the next shot! You miss reading Gadling for one day and miss finding out that your pic was photo of the day. I accidentally hit Google images instead of Google and just discovered this today. Thanks!!

TR,
It is a wonderful shot so I'm glad you had a lovely surprise. Miss Gadling for a day and there's no telling what will happen.
Maybe that dog and goat are best buds which is why the dog seemed to resemble a goat to me. Maybe the goat barks.
