Photo of the Day (8-19-09)

As I was in St. Mark's Square just three days ago with my son who sat still trying to get pigeons to eat cracker crumbs out of his hand, this picture brought back a memory of a perfect travel moment that made me smile.

I wish the second photo was a little sharper. More interesting is how immensely overcast it is. I am spoiled here in Orange County, California.

Ross,
Lucky you to live where it's sunny. I live in the part of Ohio where it's rarely sunny after November. The lack of sharpness adds to the allure, I think. If the pigeon was sharper, I think it would be out of balance with the one that's half in the picture. But, perhaps, that's just me.

Nick,
I think the lack of sharpness adds to the photo. If it was sharp it would have looked more scientific or nature photography-like. This version looks artsy to me. What makes it visually interesting is the dreamy quality, the pigeons' placements and the way each pigeon's image is different from the other. It's like an old time movie. Fred Astaire is dancing below.
I would have written you back sooner but I was on my way to a Greek cruise where WiFi was $1.00 a minute. I'm back now. Thanks for your comment.
