Carnival Cruise Lines is looking for a Godchild for their newest ship
In just 33 days, the newest addition to the Carnival Cruise Line fleet will be unveiled. The Carnival Dream will be the largest ship in their fleet, and like all new cruise ships being built nowadays, the Dream comes with a whole linup of amazing innovations.
Guests on the Carnival Dream can enjoy an outdoor theater, a 24 hour pizzeria, a burrito bar, a mongolian wok, a sushi bar, 3 different kids clubs, a dance club, various lounges and bars and - get this - a 6 slide water park.
To celebrate the launch of their ship, Carnival is asking kids between 7 and 12 to "share their dreams", for a chance at becoming the world's first cruise ship Godchild. Click her to visit the Carnival Book of Dreams site, where you will see how kids can enter the contest.
In addition to the honor of being named Godchild, the winner will also be invited to christen the WaterWorks aqua park, and bring their family along to sail on the 3 night inaugural voyage of the ship. Carnival will even provide airfare for the lucky winner. Four runner-ups will each receive a digital camera and various Carnival logo items.
As if that wasn't enough, each entry in the contest means Carnival will donate $2 to St. Judes Children's Research Hospital and $1 for each vote.
The contest started yesterday, and runs till September 18th 2009.

Cruise? OY! They look to me like being trapped for a week in the same hotel, with bored old rich people shopping for a "dream of a lifetime" purse and earrings.

Aw, James, I can see that you have never been on a singles cruise, or any cruise for that matter. I thought the same thing until I went on my first cruise, I took a short one that was real cheap as I just knew it would blow. Well, I am about to take my third one. Fun..........Fun..........

More like staying at a nice hotel that moves around to great destinations. My kids love it and we always have a great time. Only negative is that the food is so good I have to work out afterwards. Carnival lines are big fun, I'm taking the family to the Cayman Islands in a few weeks. School can wait, the kids always learn more exploring.

Nick - I am sad that you feel that "school can wait" because your children learn a lot on a cruise. While I agree that they probably learn a great deal, they will come back to school having missed things and have to catch up. Further, if your state runs things the way California does - and most do - the school will lose money for every day your children are not there. And what message are you sending your children - that school isn't important. When they are in trouble academically in the later years and blow off the importance of school, will you make excuses for them?
I have three children aged 17, 14 and 6. I have seen children pulled out of school for all sorts of things that could have been scheduled during the summer and watched first hand, as a parent working in the classroom, how hard it is for them when they come back and everyone else has learned a new concept that they did not. Teach your children responsiblity and respect for their own education by not undermining it. Please schedule your vacations to coincide with theirs. That puts them first, and that is what we parents are supposed to do.

Carnival is OK IF u don'tmind a gang of UnWatched littlr brats running all over the placE1 I took one of their ships at Christmas and what a mistake That was! People give their family a Cruise for a Christmas gift so there were kids EVERYWHERE! They were sliding down the Bannisters of the stairs and going up and down in the elevators and doing tricks in the halls! Never again will I take ANY cruise on Any line Except when school is IN. Carnival Attracts families and young singles looking for a Quicky so if You want a Really Decent cruise you Don't want Carnival. I have cruised a LOT and the Best is RCCL. I Think RCCL has changed their actual name but they r still the BEST!

We have a 12 year old daughter whom we pull out of school every year for a week and every year we go on a week long cruise. Mostly Carnival but we have been on Disney and Royal Caribbean It is not affordable for us to go during the summer during peak season. Even being absent for a week in the classroom setting our daughter continues to make straight A's and scores at the top of her class on tests. My daughter learns to take responsability for her own education as she gets the majority of the school work ahead of time and she does it before we go. That teaches her to be responsible for her own education Life is never so perfest that everybodys scheudle can be dictated and micro managed by the school board. The mother of the 3 kids should give her kids the oppertunity to become responsible. The real world is not so cut and dry. When we go on our cruis we go to all the historical spots that the cruise agenda offers. My daughter doesn't just read about life and history she experiences it. She has been to the Mayan ruins in Mexico, the turtle farms in Grand Cayman, Hemingways house in key West and she understands how fortunate she is when she sees the povery of the dominican. You can't touch that feel that or smell that in the classroom. A picture is truely worth a thousand words.
