Hawaii says "stay away" to the Wienermobile
Apple pie, Baseball and the Wienermobile - seriously, there is not much more American than the iconic Oscar Mayer hotdog on wheels. People everywhere love seeing the Wienermobile, and contests are held yearly so people can get a chance to drive it themselves.
Unless of course you live in Hawaii. An archaic 1927 law bans all billboards on the Hawaiian islands, and a local organization claims the Wienermobile should be part of that ban. The group, Outdoor Circle, is pushing to keep the hotdog off the island forever.
The Wienermobile visited Hawaii for 3 weeks in July, and as far as Outdoor Circle is concerned, that is going to be its last visit.
According to the people behind the organization, "6 to 12 O'ahu residents complained". A 2006 law banning all vehicles with the sole purpose of advertising was also cited in the complaint.
The Honolulu mayor welcomed the Wienermobile to his city, and it was honored with an official "Oscar Mayer Wiener Day". The mayor is now looking into possible violations, but pointed out that no official complaints were received by them.
Sometimes you just wonder whether people are having such a hard time finding better things to do. Complaining about the Wienermobile violating a 1920's law just seems like a huge waste of time.

I do not see why simply because there are more important issues in the world, that it is wrong to state an objection to people trying to defend a law in their state.
No connection.

By the way go to their website and take a look at who you think the "Hawaiians" are. Type in "the outdoor circle" and see who founded this thing. My relatives stream through these islands and I don't know any that complain of such things.

And to realize this state has contributed talented, gifted, brilliant beings, how embarrassing, ridiculous, and puny to note that there is a group here that has harshly put down the good things meant to brighten life just a little bit.

And what type of ammo would it use, I know a Mustard Cannon and relish bombs and a chili-thrower

I swear, people are just looking for reasons to impose their thoughts on everyone else. Just because YOU don't like something doesn't mean it should be gone. Pretty soon, breathing is going to be banned, it may offend someone!

MLC.... I personally wouldn't listen to you since your from Vermont, I grew up there in the Early 1970s to 1980 after coming from NJ and I had the worse hate filled growing up in Rutland cause I was an "Outer Stater" As far as I'm concerned Vermont is still a backwards State and full of Idiots.
As for the State of Hawaii I think they're going over board on this since it's not a Stationarie Billboard that would in fact muck up the beauty of the surrounding areas. I was station there for 4 yrs and Loved it.

Kudos to Hawaii for sticking to their guns. I'm sure they'll cave eventually, but personally I wish more people felt this way about advertising. It's bad enough how much we have to deal with in newspapers, mail, television, the internet, billboards, etc, without having another ad thrown in our face when a car happens to drive by. Screw the wienermobile. Maybe, if we made more laws about what can and can't be used for advertising, it would force companies to lower their prices anyways. Not to mention, they'd be able to with all the money they've saved not being able to advertise as much.
God bless Hawaii for telling those wieners they're not welcome :P

Tell me the difference between a commercial truck, car, or any other type of transportation.
Tell me any business the drives on the roads does not have their logo, or company name on it. People,,, get a life!

6-12 people do not mean the whole state feels that way. There should be NO ban, nor insults to the fine people of the state!
Paul Jul 24th 2009 3:15PM
WASN'T HAWAII SUPPOSED TO BE A TARGET OF NUCLEAR ATTACK BY KOREA? THIS IS WHAT THEY THINK IS IMPORTANT? BANNING THE WEINERMOBILE? NOTICE TOO THAT IT WAS 6 TO 12 RESIDENTS THAT COMPLAINED. SO THE OTHER RESIDENTS HAVE TO BOW TO THE COMPLAINERS. THEY CAN CHANGE THE NAME FROM WEINERMOBILE TO WHINERMOBILE.

It must really suck to be these whining weiners! How sad to live their stupid miserable little lives.
Long live the Weinermobile!!!! What next? Banning ice? It's just too cold!

I live in Hawaii and personally am ashamed these people of the Hawaii Outdoor Circle call Hawaii their home. Almost all of them are transplanted Hawaii residents, meaning very few of them were actually born here. They come here from other States, claim Hawaii as their home, then make life miserable for the people who were born and raised here by raising ridiculous and inane arguements about trivial matters. Its not like the Weinermobile is here for long. Once every few years they ship a Couple of their mobile ad vehicles here for a couple of weeks. They promote their product, raise some money for local charities, let the local kids have a good time, and they leave. No harm to the environment and they make people happy, then these scrooges act like the nags and ninnies they are and creat a fuss about nothing. Bozos.

We should ban people who are wieners!!!!!!!!
Rick Jul 24th 2009 10:22PM
The Weiner mobile is a part of history, millions of children and adults can remember seeing the Weiner mobile and the handing out of the weiner whistle. I doubt there has every been a child that has not been excited the first time they saw the weiner mobile. So you might as well ban the baseball. Time for the Hawaii to succeed. Then they can elect a new king, (maybe that guy in charge of trying to ban the Weiner mobile.) Who then can then ban Disney, apple pie, television, education, books and freedom of speech. What a moronic crusade!

Well Slap Mustard on my O.M. Weenie ! I applied many times over the last few years to drive the 'Promotional' Slogan on wheels , still wanting to drive "IT" .I have driven Ready-Mix Concrete Mixer trucks with 13 speed Road-Ranger transmissions, and the actual vehicle weighing close to maximum of 100,000 pounds ,like duh , in the city and in the Mountains , but to no avail. Perhaps next year , huh ?
Danner Jul 24th 2009 3:34PM
Hey, here's an idea..........why not ban all of the hookers on the stroll on the streets of Waikiki. Arn't they advertising too? Weinermobile RULES!!!
