Mayor wants to eclipse city's mooning festival
It's the type of event that a mayor might normally look forward to--one that brings people together and puts them in a celebratory mood. No matter that the celebratory mood makes the people here want to drop trou and start mooning trains. This Saturday, Laguna Niguel, California will be celebrating its annual "Moon Over Amtrak." Last year, between 8,000-10,000 people participated in the day-long event. Revelers line Camino Capistrano, a road that parallels the railroad tracks, and moon the trains--sometimes waiting a few minutes and other times an hour between moons.
For the past 30 years, the event has been a city tradition. But this year the new mayor, Robert Ming, isn't liking it one bit--complaining of its crowds and drunkenness. Of course, 39 year-old Ming, who's been in office since December, has never even participated in the event. (Just a thought: maybe he should join his constituency and give it a whirl before he tries to shut it down, eh?)
A semi-official website is up that lists the train passings between 7:35 a.m. and 11:22 p.m.--a total of 37 times throughout the day. I like that the event still seems to have an organic, 'now what are we doing?' feel to it. The website recommends that people "bring a wire coat hanger to make a hook to hang your lantern from the chain link fence" for the nighttime moonings. And it also answers the question that I know you were begging to ask: "Can I decorate my butt?" The answer is yes.
Moon Over Amtrak started back in 1979 when a bar patron offered to buy a drink to anyone who would moon the next train. One man took him up on it and--flash--a tradition was born.

Mooning should be banned. I'm glad there R some people out there with "MORALS!"
It may seem innocent but your body is the "TEMPLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT!!!!!!" Whether it's showing you butt or your breasts keep them for only your spouse to see. No wonder the world is going to HELL IN A HAND BASKET! That expression wasn't made up for nothing. If U don't agree with me, I would hate to be U when U die & find out YOU'RE WRONG & end up in HELL. Yes, sin is sin & there is a devil & demons roaming around the earth trying to get your soul. Sadly to say, the devil & his agents don't need much help. The devil's time is running out & he & his demons r trying very hard to take U to HELL with them for all eternity!!!!!!!!! READ THE BIBLE YOU WILL LEARN A LOT 7 SAVE YOUR SOUL IF U FOLLOW IT. LOOK FOR THE TEN COMMANDMENTS & FOLLOW THEM!
P. S. THE DEVIL'S BIGGEST TRICK IS FOR U NOT TO BELIEVE IN HIM!
GOD BLESS & HOPE TO MEET U IN HEAVEN 1 DAY!!!!!!!!!!!

U go mayor. I agree w/you. People should keep there pants on. They should only come off in the bedroom. Don't worry about pleasing a bunch of morons. They need some manners. Their momma's didn't teach them any class. It's not funny, it's tacky & classless. I won't call anyone trailer trash because their r a lot of good people who live in trailers. However, I will call those kind of people trashy!!!!

The Mayor seems to be a bit behind times. Maybe he should butt out.

Mooning is public indecency, like yelling "F*CK" in a crowded theater. It is an obscene misinterpretation of the First Amendment, disrespectful of authority, and police should be permitted to shoot people who moon them.

Your family values are showing California. What do I expect from the land of fruits and nuts.

A lot of things that people have had the freedom to do for 30 years are being taken away.

I went last year and although there were a ton of people there, it was harmless and so much fun! Until the cops came in riot gear making thousands of people leave after drinking large quantities of alcohol... that was something I couldnt understand. People like to have a good time and although it got to a Mardi Gra type of time, it was all in good fun and there wasnt anyone there that was looking for trouble. Its sad that rather then monitoring it and letting the people have a day to wind down and let loose and bond with one another they would rather be assholes about it and shut it all down. This world would be a better place if they didnt try to control everything we do and just let us have some fun. Most of the people that were down there last year brought their RV's, had good jobs, were mature, responsible people just having a good time. People need to pull their heads out and give us hard working people a frkn break!

Unfortunately, this was my first year to attend. At 9:00 a.m. I drove down Camino Capistrano (a very secluded street) to Mugs Away where the event was to start. For miles before my destination and all the way to the dead end EVERY SINGLE parking space was roped off forbidding parking. There were about 10 police officers on horses patroling the streets, God knows how many police cars with 2 officers per car, motorcycle cops everywhere, cops on bicycles, and some riding those stupid stand up - three wheel things like mall cops. They had a huge truck parked to haul off law breakers, and there were tented areas for the police. Many officers sat under the tents while the others patroled enforcing rules telling elderly women (70+ years) to remove their lawn chairs from the sidewalk and shade. I WATCHED THIS HAPPEN! Several police officers parked at the mooning site and used personal cameras to get their own pictures.
REMEMBER: There was no where for people to park except the small industrial parking lot where Mugs Away is located.
Honestly, it felt a bit like we were being occupied by the Nazi's. I have never experienced anything like this. I really want to know what the cost was for this type of "law enforcement" to Orange County, CA. Please note that Mugs Away normally opens at 7:00 a.m. The city of Laguna Niguel forbid them to open till 10:00 a.m. When the gentleman opened the doors the first thing he did was hang the American Flag and said, "Last I heard we lived in a free country." Regardless of Mayor Ming's personal objections to this tradition, I believe that he should personally foot the bill to cover this rediculous extreme representation of power bearing his authority. It would be a kind gesture to apologize to the seniors that were removed from shaded seating by the "law enforcement officials". You should be ashamed!!!!!
