The retractable Kensington lock is a nice idea in theory, but as the reviews on Amazon reveal, the cable is both very thin and very short (4'). A thin cable could potentially be cut by a decent pair of pliers or wire cutters; a short cable means you could potentially have to leave a laptop perilously close to the edge of a desk.
I tend to try and downsize when I travel - I carry some retractable items, like a ZipLinq cat5 cable, but the one thing I refuse to compromise on is security. Until Kensington comes out with a "DS" version of the retractable lock with 6' of cable or better, I'll stick with my standard DS lock.
