Disney World monorail driver killed in crash
One monorail crashed into the back of another at Walt Disney World early this morning, killing one driver and shaking up a family of six. According to the park's statement, "Today we mourn the loss of our fellow cast member. Our hearts go out to his family and to those who have lost a friend and co-worker."
The monorail, according to a report by CNN, was shut down, as the park works with law enforcement to figure out just what happens ... and what comes next.
As this story develops, we'll keep you posted.

As an ex-disney cast member from years ago, I remember during training they told us that there is a safety system that shuts down the power on the loop if trains on the same track even come within 300 yards or some distance like that.
For something like this to happen it must have been (in my opinion), multiple failures /perfect storm that had contributed to it, including the obvious failure of the 'safety system'.

Disney being Disney, they have made excellent arrangements for transportation, while the monorail is shut down. Disney and extra busses move guests between TTC/parking and the Magic Kingdom or EPCOT, as well as the resorts around the Seven Seas Lagoon.
This was a very sad occurrence, and hopefully they sort out what happened soon, so that the monorails can start running again.
