Virgin Blue calls musician terrorist
It wasn't until Steve Lucas actually got on the plane that he had a problem. His bullet-studded guitar strap – empty shells, of course – made it through the various points in the Sydney airport's security gauntlet. Consequently, all his luggage was removed from the Virgin Blue flight.
Three times, the musician of 30 years was called to the front of the plane to sign a statement confirming that he had brought prohibited goods aboard. Lucas claims not to have had any problems with the shells on previous flights while on tour.
Separated from his instruments, Lucas was unable to rehearse in a timely manner, prompting him to call the airline's complaints line ... where he was told he was a potential terrorist.
Mom may have said that rock music will rot your brain, but this is extreme.

I imagine Mr. Lucas used the shell casings to be provocative and catch people's attention. Well, he succeeded in provoking and catching the attention of airline security. We all know they have no sense of humor or independent thought. Perhaps he should fashion a traveling guitar strap to prevent further hassle.

No one has a problem until he is ON the plane? I suddenly feel very safe.

I agree Chuck....He's on the Plane THEN they decide there may be a problem???? WOW.
If this were a terrorist the mission would have been successful. Kaboom.

I am all for improved security in our current world; but we should not become cowards! Some people are afraid of everything. Empty cartridge cases are less dangerous than a ball point pen.

Do you read what you write?
That first paragraph is incomprehensible.

More proof that Bin Laden has won! First, comitt a terrorist act so bad that people run for cover everytime they hear a low flying plane. Second, sit back and watch while two administrations Rape and pilage the masses for money for more war and touchy feely HOMELAND SECURITY(GESTAPO)!. Three, wait for the inevitable fail of a fat and lazy american economy(unions, lawers and politicians,CALL ME SENATOR GENERAL)!

I travel all over the country, sometimes by car and sometimes by plane. When I travel by car, I always have my pistol with me and extra ammo in my car and in my breifcase. Of course when i travel by plane I cant take my pistol but I never take the ammo out my breifcase and its a full box of 9 mm and not once have I been questioned about it, whether they have just never seen it or just didnt care I dont know. Oh and for the record, I always one or two extra lighters in my briefcase as well, And in case you wondering, yes I take my briefcase on as a carry on. Airports that I have gone thru security like this include the following... Atlanta, Columbia, Charlotte, Dallas, Oklahoma, Cinn, Las Vegas, Houston, Ft. Worth, Boston, just to name a few......I've oftened wondered if since they have never found the ammo would they find my gun if I put it with the ammo.
