Russian businessman builds himself the world's most expensive private yacht

Several days ago, we wrote about the world's most expensive private jet, but what if you don't like flying, or just want to be able to dock in Monaco to watch the Grand-Prix?

Then you get yourself a 9 deck mega-yacht like the one pictured above.

It was commissioned by Russian businessman Roman Abromovich and cost $420 Million to build, making it "just" $60 Million cheaper than that Airbus A380 super jet built for Prince al-Waleed bin Talal.

So, what does $420 Million buy on the open oceans nowadays? The vessel is 550 feet long, has 2 helicopter landing decks, a massive pool with multiple bars, a movie theater, library, restaurant, private garden and a 5000 square foot master suite. When the time comes to get back to land, the owner and his guests can grab one of 20 jet-skis stored inside the ship.

Of course, when you are one of the richest men in the world, you face threats that us commoners don't have to deal with, so Mr Abromovich included a private submarine and a missile detection system.

One of the previous contenders for "World's most expensive yacht" was US businessman Larry Ellison (of Oracle), but his boat is just half the size of this new one. In fact, the previous records for "superyacht' were all under $100 Million, and given the current state of the world's economy, I'm fairly sure Mr. Abromovich will be holding on to his record for quite some time.
