I've encountered some pretty freaky bugs during my travels. It's always fun running into a Brazilian cockroach or giant millipede in your tent at night. I think the whip scorpions we found in the Ecuadorian Amazon take the title of "scariest-looking." And while mosquitoes are annoying, they've got nothing on deer flies, which attacked me while I was face to face with a wild puma in the Costa Rican jungle last year. That was painful.
