Fantastic article. This gives me hope again! I tried the dSLR route, but just couldn't master it, so I went back to my trusty Lumix 10x zoom P&S.
I see plenty of people out there with a $1000 camera, still using the stock lens, who appear to have no idea what they are doing. I'm convinced that dSLR's are a status symbol for a lot of people, even at really basic events (like a playground or kids carnival), I'll see people dragging their huge photo bag along with them trying to look interesting.
Sure, I understand some people want to look like a pro, but surely life is sometimes easier if you just slide a nice P&S in your back pocket and not let photography get in the way of having a good time?
