Angry rush to cockpit forces Delta flight to land in Boston, not Tel Aviv
When a Delta Airlines flight left New York for Tel Aviv, the passengers didn't think they'd be stopping in Boston. After all, though it's on the way, it's a bit close to warrant needing to stretch your legs. An angry passenger rushing the cockpit, though, tends to make an emergency landing prudent.
Late last night, Delta Flight 86 boasted 206 passengers – 205 of which were perfectly reasonable. A 22-year-old Israeli man ran to the front of the plane and started to pound on the cockpit door. Passengers and crew put the smack down and subdued the nut-job until landing.
Now, the other passengers are stuck in Boston while an investigation is being conducted and luggage is checked.
As if flying weren't irritating enough these days ...

I drove past this yesterday and was wondering what was going on. Lots of police cars and fire engines.

I'm glad that they were able to get some order, but it is too bad about the delay. I know that I 'd be frightened in this sort of a situation.

That's why El-Al interviews all passengers before boarding and does intensive profiling (to heck with hurt sensibilities!). to avoid stuff like this or worse. Here, in the US, we get random patdowns of little old ladies ( never mind the middle eastern young man behind her) and confiscate tweezers.
The Israelis, know that you can never find all the weapons (Lexan knives) but that you can perceive who is a risk as long as you do away with political correctness.

When flying to Israel, El Al is the best. Before my Toronto-Tel Aviv flight, they grilled me about my blog (do I write about religious issues?). Then, before they let me go, the security guy turns to me, "oh, i know it's hard, but don't worry about your 2-year-old, she won't even remember that you left." Creepy, but I was happy to have raised my blog stats. They also put my carry-on on "special transfer" to be picked up at the gate before boarding (i know they looked through my laptop while it was on "transit", as I have very specific ways of zipping up my case). But overall, I would feel safer flying to Israel with El Al.
