As a seasoned Yellowstone visitor, I'd like to add that May is perhaps the best month for wildlife in Yellowstone. There's heavier bear and wolf action as the predators prey on animals that have been weakened or killed by the harsh winter. You also start seeing baby animals emerge. Bison are already starting to calve now, and elk start giving birth later in May. June can also be quite good, with spawning trout leading to increased sightings of otters and pelicans.
