American Airlines updates fleets with new Boeing 737s
With the oldest fleet in the American workforce, it was about time that American Airlines got aggressive with updating their aircraft. This year they're starting the revamp with delivery of new Boeing 737-800s.While the 737-800 airframe has been around for ten years now, American is making sure to include all of the modcons to keep passengers happy. Among those tidbits will be new, numerous overhead screens that pump better, streamlined videos, in-seat power in coach and Aircell augmentation -- meaning wireless internet will eventually be available on all new aircraft.
These new deliveries will be a fresh breath of air compared against the current, ancient fleet that American flies today. While it's an impressive accomplishment to keep such an outdated fleet operational, at some point, a new generation of aircraft needs to take hold.
Deliveries of the 737-800 aircraft started this month and will continue throughout the next couple of years. Keep an eye out for the new aircraft, interiors and service. You'll be impressed.

For what it's worth, American has been adding the 737-800 to it's fleet for awhile now. In fact they already have about 77 in their fleet and they are scheduled to add another 69 to the fleet by the end of 2010. So, in fact, they are about halfway through their program to replace those aging MD-80's of which about 270 are still in the air.

True, but these 737s are configured a bit differently than the 737s that AA had originally taken delivery up to 2002.
They burn about 1% less fuel, there are now 110V AC power outlets, more seating yet more legroom (probably due to some galley layout changes).
Not to mention that they're at least 7 years newer.

NOW... AMERICAN AIRLINES HAD THIS GRRRRRRRRRREAT COULDNT PASS UP DEAL FROM MIAMI TO PANAMA....
I LIVE IN SEATTLE SO I FIGURED- SHOOT BOOK THOSE TICKETS THEN LOOK OUT FOR A STEAL FROM SEATTLE TO MIAMI.
GREAT THINKING RIGHT? WELL.. IT WAS UNTIL I LOGGED ON 28 HOURS LATER AND SPENT 2 HOURS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT
HOW TO GET MY FLIGHT SWITCHED BECAUSE I FOUND A KILLER DEAL FROM SEATTLE TO PANAMA, THAT CONNECTED IN MIAMI- AND JUST BY COINCIDENCE WAS FLIGHT 959.. WHICH WAS MY ORIGINAL FLIGHT #.
SO I CALLED AMERICAN.. AND SAID HEY, I AM ALREADY ON 959 I JUST WANT YOU TO HONOR THE DEAL THAT IS ON YOUR WEB SPECIAL, AND CHARGE MY THE DIFFERENCE SINCE IM BEGINNING MY TRIP IN SEATTLE INSTEAD OF MIAMI.
THEY SAID ITD BE 150.00 TO CHANGE MY FLIGHT + MY AIRFARE DIFFERENCE... WELL THAT'S NOT REALLY A DEAL NOW IS IT? THAT TOTALS JUST OVER 300.00 NOR IS THAT DISPLAYING GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE.
HOLY HELL I WAS ALREADY ON FLIGHT 959 ITS NOT LIKE THEY HAD TO CHANGE MY FLIGHT NUMBER OR ANYTHING...
OH ANOTHER COOL THING, IS THAT MY FLIGHT IS NON-REFUNDABLE.
SO IM SCREWED :) BUT, SHE WAS NICE ENOUGH TO THROW IN THE FACT THAT HAD I CALLED 4 HOURS SOONER, SHE COULD'VE WAIVED THE 150.00 FLIGHT CHANGE FEE. OH MY GOD I WANT TO KILL AMERICAN AIRLINES RIGHT NOW.
AND BOTH PEOPLE I SPOKE WITH AT AMERICAN, DON'T REALLY SEEM TO CARE.
I DID HOWEVER WRITE A COMPLAINT EMAIL TO AMERICAN, AND TOLD THEM I'D BE STICKING WITH ALASKA AND OTHER NON LAME AIRLINES FROM HERE FORWARD.. AND BELIEVE ME- FOR BEING 19 YEARS OLD... I FLY A LOT. THEY CAN COUNT ME OUT OF 80 YEARS OF MY BUSINESS + MY FUTURE HUSBAND, + OUR CHILDREN.. AND ALL OF MY IMMEDIATE FAMILY- BECAUSE MY DAD WILL DEFENITELY BACK ME WHEN I FEEL I HAVE BEEN WRONGED. AND I WILL CONTINUE TO BLOG ABOUT THIS FOR A LONG TIME. I AM SICK OF BUSINESSES RIPPING PEOPLE OFF... AND I HAVE HAD IT.
