The bigfoot hostel in Leon runs this and has daily trips. They fill up quick so you need to sign up the day before usually. If I remember correctly it was about 10$.
It was pretty fun, no doubt about it. I think though that a lot of the fun was because of the novelty factor. It's definitely a "check box item" for Nicaragua. The other cool part about it is the hike up Cerro Negro, because it looks exactly like the scene in the Lord of the Rings movie where Frodo and Samwise are climbing around in Mordor. It's just desolate, blasted black rock. I admit that I might have stopped at one point and yelled, "Frodooooo!"
