Gadling Giveaway: Road Trip USA
Gadling is teaming up with Avalon Travel to bring you a great giveaway! A few days ago, I reviewed Road Trip USA, Avalon's latest guidebook written by road trip extraordinaire Jamie Jensen, who also was gracious enough to answer a few questions and Talk Travel with me. Believe me when I tell you: this is the Road Trip bible – 900 pages of travel tips and fun facts that cover the 48 contiguous states and even a little bit of Canada.
Now, you can win a free copy of Jamie Jensen's brand new Road Trip USA guidebook by leaving a comment in the bottom of this post by Friday, April 24, 2009 @ 5 p.m. EST. Your comment must provide a description of a place in the continental U.S. that you believe people need to see before they die. Please specify the city (if possible) and state where we can find this place. This comment shouldn't be longer than five sentences, please.
Three winners will be picked randomly. The first winner will receive his/her very own copy of Road Trip USA, and two others will receive one of Jamie's regional guides to either the Pacific Coast Highway or Route 66.
It's that simple!
Just so you get the idea, here's my destination of choice. But don't worry: I already have my copy. Now go and win yours.
Brenda's "entry": Growing up in Hawaii, I didn't understand the nation's fascination with baseball. Why are grown men wearing tight pants and running around three bases? I didn't get it because I'd never been to a baseball game and the most quintessential ballpark I have to say is Fenway in Boston, Massachusetts. From the Pesky Pole and the Green Monster to Yawkey Way and Landsdown Street, Fenway's got it all. Plus going to a game at Fenway is absolutely electric.
Look for a follow-up post and announcement on Gadling late next week!

If you are like me and love good barbecue then you need to make your way to the barbecue capital of the world, Memphis, TN. Catch an early redbirds game (a farm team for the St. Louis Cardinals) and while at Autozone park make sure you try some barbecue nachos. After the game, walk across the street to Rendezvous Ribs and eat a slab of Americas Finest Ribs before heading to beale street to drink the night away.

The National Parks of Utah are a must-see in my mind. You can't go wrong with any of them - Capitol Reef is my favorite because of the solitude and scenery, but Zion and Bryce Canyon are amazing as well. I've been in all seasons except winter and believe the canyons of Utah are one of the most beautiful places I've ever been.

Asa - in order to be eligible, you need to add a quick (really short is fine!) description.

Sure, it's a no-brainer, but it has to be on the list: Grand Canyon in AZ at sunrise (the North Rim is beautiful).

We went on vacation last August to the Riverwalk, in San Antonio, TX. It was gorgeous, but very hot. And the historic places, such as the Alamo also were fun to visit. I'd love to go back & visit again-and maybe I will.

I was returning to California after finishing graduate school up in Illinois - so I decided to do a road trip from Chicago to Los Angeles, via Seattle. Logical, I know. =). But the biggest highlight was driving through South Dakota, seeing signs for a 'scenic detour', and quite literally stumbling on the Badlands National Park. The majesty of the place can't be exaggerated, and it is such a shocking change after the rolling plains of South Dakota, Iowa, Illinois and onwards to the east. It is absolutely a must-see!
I missed out on seeing the 'Going To The Sun Road' (Montana) and Mt. St. Helens (Oregon) as these are at higher elevations and I was traveling around the end of May. These are next on my must-see list.

Everyone must visit Charleston, SC at some time in their life. I have had the pleasure of living here, and can honestly say that everyone would enjoy a visit here. You can take in the beautiful sights of historic downtown, visit the plantations and gardens, and even shop at the old market.

I believe everyone needs to visit the Emerald Shores of Panama City Beach, FL. Sand doesn't get any whiter or softer than PCB's beaches.
Thanks for the giveaway!

I drove from Anchorage, AK to GA with my 86 yr. old wheelchair bound father. It took us a month, but we completed his "Bucket List". Over 6000 miles and memories to last a lifetime!

I'll tell you to visit, at least once, the only city I know and that is Columbus, OH.
Being from here I'd like to get away but it really is a neat city. We've got all the seasons, great restaurants, great night life, city and country settings around. A little bit of everything.

I think everyone needs to see Big Sur in California. It is just beautiful with the winding roads so close to the ocean. It takes my breath away every time I drive through that area.
Karen M Apr 20th 2009 8:44PM
Everyone should see the Grand Canyon. It is the most awesome sight. Thanks.
