Flight attendant blocks man from using bathroom - has him arrested
We've probably all heard the stern warning at the start of our flight telling us to use the bathroom in our own cabin. The separation of the classes means only business class passengers are allowed to use the business class bathroom, and coach passengers need to use the smelly porta-potty in the rear of the plane.
But what do you do when you really have to go? Like after a meal you had in Honduras that isn't sitting too well with you?
This is the dilemma faced by Joao Correa on his Delta Airlines flight back home last week.
The coach bathroom was blocked by a drinks cart, and when he politely asked a flight attendant if he could use the front bathroom, he was told "no".
He tried to hold "it" in, but when things got too much, he sprinted up front and attempted to enter the bathroom. It was at this point when the flight attendant/bathroom cop stuck her arm in front of him and blocked the door.
The rest of the story has become part of a federal investigation, Mr Correa claims the flight attendant put her hand on his shoulder, and that he grabbed her arm to keep his balance, her side of the story claims he pushed her arm down and twisted it.
The flight attendant then called the pilot, who probably rolled his eyes and told her to let Mr. Correo just use the bathroom. He then returned to his seat and was quiet for the rest of the flight.
Upon landing at Atlanta airport, he was arrested and locked up for 2 nights before appearing before a judge.
Mr. Correa says he is "devastated' by the whole incident, and I can't blame him, it's one thing to keep your plane secure and prevent people from walking into the wrong cabin, but when the other bathrooms are clearly blocked, and one of your passengers really has to go, you just let him go.
To actually put your arm in front of the bathroom door and block a passenger is pathetic, and I hope Delta Airlines realizes this. That said, if Mr. Correa really did injure the flight attendant, he should face the charges, but I'd say that 2 nights in jail is about the extent of what he should be punished with.
What do you think?
| Yes, keep the unwashed masses away from the business class bathroom | |
|---|---|
| Yes, let him poop in his pants, her job is to protect the bathroom | |
| No, the rule is clear, but exceptions should be made |

My brother is a Delta pilot. I can tell you, most pilots come out of the air force. Air force pilots wives have the highest rates of "Munchausen Syndrome", and "Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy". More than the wives of any other carreer of military branch. I think the mechanism in play here is the same as MSbP. Attention W#@res trying to gain the attention of the "Knight in Shining Armour" (the pilot). Feigning victomhood, and feigning injury to stimulate the Hero Reflex in the pilots.

What are you talking about? Back that up with statistics that we can see online somewhere. I am an Air Force spouse, and I have NEVER heard of ANYTHING so ridiculous. Do you even know what Munchhausen by proxy is? Women usually do it to their children. They purposely make them ill in order to get attendtion. What does that have to do with this stewardess? What a MORONIC statement. This is highly offensive to Air Force spouses.
In Munchausen by Proxy Syndrome, an individual — usually a mother — deliberately makes another person (most often his or her own preschool child) sick or convinces others that the person is sick. The parent or caregiver misleads others into thinking that the child has medical problems by lying and reporting fictitious episodes. He or she may exaggerate, fabricate, or induce symptoms. As a result, doctors usually order tests, try different types of medications, and may even hospitalize the child or perform surgery to determine the cause.
Typically, the perpetrator feels satisfied by gaining the attention and sympathy of doctors, nurses, and others who come into contact with him or her and the child. Some experts believe that it isn't just the attention that's gained from the "illness" of the child that drives this behavior, but also the satisfaction in being able to deceive individuals that they consider to be more important and powerful than themselves.

What are you talking about? You don't even have a clue what Munchausen is and to say Air Force wives have it more than any other military spouse or even have it all? Back that up with legitimate statistics. This is a ridiculous statement and highly offensive to Air Force wives. THIS is what Munchausen by Proxy Syndrome is. Tell me how it relates to this flight attendant????

Lucy, I realize not ALL air force wives have Munchause Syndrome by Proxy. But it is a fact that Air Force wive have it more than any other carreer wife. The air force is spending money to find ways for computers to track medical histories to cut down on insurance costs incurred by these women.
This issue reflects not only on the woman, but on the pilots. My pilot brothers ex had this syndrome. She was always stirring up situations like this airplane bathroom incident. It was a universal personality syndrome, not only isolated to manipulating childrens doctors. Just plain old fashioned bullying and lying with a fancy name. A subcategory to factatious disorder. Some cops will get violent for the drama as well, and the make a story that casts them as the hero. Pilots aren't that primitive in their psychology, so they rely on the borderline woman to whip up a scenario to provide the narcisistic supply to cast the pilot as the hero.

This is so stupid, they need to get rid of that rule. Why can't you use the other class's bathroom? They shouldn't be allowed to deny use of an empty bathroom to someone who has to go, that should be considered a violation of passenger's rights.

He should sue the crap out of Delta.
masanddjs Apr 9th 2009 1:11AM
Wow, I thought the days of segregated bathrooms ended in the 1960s
Kris Apr 9th 2009 1:17AM
And people wonder why I don't fly
Mary Apr 9th 2009 5:28PM
I would sue Delta for medical costs of a urinatry track infection, embarrassment, and emotional and psychological detress.

He should of stood there and #$%^ right in the floor......it would of made no difference, he got arrested anyways. That would of shook their ass' up.....and I bet they wouldn't pull that again.

AMEN, AGREE!

Get a life people, flight attendants dont care if you wet your britches.......
anonymous Jun 7th 2009 7:24PM
Actually sweet heart they do b/c if you have an accident, you have grounds to sue the airlines...losing money and a job is usually good enough reason to care. Of course, you would need common sense to know that.
Wendell Apr 9th 2009 2:04AM
The airlines keep raising their rates, attach incredible fees for everything, and now they are willing to have a passenger mess himself rather than allow him to use the royal throne? Why not just charge an additional fee for allowing him to use the luxury toilet, if there can really be such a thing on a plane.

I HEARD THAT SOME AIRLINES ARE CHARGING TO USE THE BATHROOM. AND TO THAT I SAY, I HOPE PEOPLE START PEEING IN THE SEATS, MAYBE WHEN THE AIRLINES HAVE TO START PAYING TO HAVE THE SEATS TO BE CLEANED THAT PEOPLE HAVE TO SIT IN OR PAY TO HAVE THE SEATS TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE SOMEONE SOILS THE SEAT WITH CRAP THEY WILL CHANGE THEIR MINDS ABOUT LETTING SOMEONE USE THE RESTROOM. MY GOD, LET PEOPLE USE THE DAMN BATHROOM!!! ANY BATHROOM, FOR FREE!!!
Cindy Apr 9th 2009 11:42AM
Flying by myself with an infant and a 5-year-old was tough enough, let alone when the high altitude caused my baby to develop diarreah. As the mess seeped under her disposable diapers (despite my best efforts) and got on her brother's outfit, I feared it would end up on the nice-looking suit of the passenger seated on the other side of me. I asked the flight attendant for assistance, but she was busy strapping herself in for the landing. She literally told me to lay the baby down in the center isle of the plain, and handed me stiff brown paper towels from her seat. I'd used up all my baby wipes and the plane was nosing down for the landing, but the safety of my baby and me was the last thing on the flight attendant's mind. The whole incident was terrifying, but I suppose it's every man, woman and child for themselves in the "friendly" skies. This happened more than 20 years ago and yet the nonsense continues.

What a stupid bitch. She deserved a slap in the mouth. I hope she got fired. What a waste of time.
Diana Apr 9th 2009 2:40AM
I don't think he should have to apologize for anything! What kind of an idiot would actually block a person from using a BATHROOM?!! The man was not robbing a bank or killing someone, he simply had to go! People often get sickly on aircraft from stomach upset and if they could not accomodate him to use the back bathroom, then there should have been no objection to letting him use the front one. Had she not been so dumb to block the man from such a ridiculous thing, then she would not have gotten hurt. I hope Delta gets sued and the flight attendent loses her job......I wish the guy was about to throw up and could have hurled it right in her face. Would have served her right for not taking care of the customer which is one of the main purposes of her job!!!!
