2008 Airline Quality Report says Hawaiian is nation's best carrier
The annual Airline Quality Report (AQR) was just published, ranking 17 of the nation's airlines by timeliness, number of denied boardings, mishandled bags and customer complaints. The top four?1. HawaiianThough commendable, Hawaiian's top score is pretty easy to predict, as customer complaints and mishandled bags obviously go down when the weather is perfect every day. Air Tran, JetBlue and Northwest, operating out of Atlanta, New York City and the Midwest, respectively, all deserve praise as well.
2. Air Tran
3. JetBlue
4. Northwest
And the bottom?
17. Atlantic SoutheastThat is, mostly feeder airlines for the legacy carriers. Typically these carriers have smaller aircraft and a higher number of cancellations, so it's not uncommon to see them at the bottom of the quality list.
16. American Eagle
15. Comair
14. Mesa
The most heartwarming news in this year's AQR is actually not specific to any airline but rather to the entire industry. As a whole, airline quality is improving, with more on time arrivals, fewer denied boardings, fewer last bags and less complaints. Considering all of the airlines that went out of business last year, I'm sure this is welcome news for those remaining.
You can read your very own full copy of the AQR in PDF here.
Dude, how many times do we have to tell you? If you're going to Hawaii, use sunscreen. Do NOT be like the guys in the gallery below!

I CAN NOT BELIEEEEEEVE that US AIR (a.k.a. Ghetto Air) did NOT make the WORST list!!! This goes to show how inaccurate this list is! I have flown many different airlines and US AIR is the WORST airline in customer service EVER! EVERY SINGLE EMPLOYEE FROM THE GATE CHECK IN TO THE FLIGHT ATTENDANTS WERE SO DISGUSTINGLY RUDE TO MYSELF AND OTHER PASSENGERS.
US AIR - # 1 WORST airline ever!!!!
As for the best in my opinion....SOUTHWEST ROCKS!!!

Without a doubt the USA's best airline is
Midwest, based in Milwaukee. They are great in on-time record, the chocolate chip cookies, leather seating and no second class - all first class, or what some might call 'business class.' They have never had a fatal crash.
The attendants are attentive, but not centerfold quality. Who cares - you want a centerfold? Go knock on Hef's door.
Midwest travels all directions with mostly non-stops, like Boston, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, and Denver, to mention a few.
Fares are not as competitive as Southwest, another favorite of mine, which you don't rank as one of the best. But, you get a lot for what you pay for on
Midwest, 'the best care in the air.'

I flew Delta once a mo. for a year from Ca. to Atlanta and back and I can say they have the rudest flight attendants in the air. I have flown other airlines since then and man what a difference.

I was forced to fly ASA for years and they are hands down the worst airline ever. Schedules mean nothing, the personnel could care less about your connections and problems and they are NEVER on time. Avoid them at all costs.

Airtran.. The departure and return time has been changed twice in the past two weeks. I made reservations for one time and it has been changed. The first time this has ever happened where the time has changed and no one told you. Flight is not until July, but DAM.

I have flown in Hawaiian Airlines a couple of times and can see why they deserve to be at the top. Quality customer care, good service and negligible rate of late arrivals. It's really surprising why a few other airlines are so reluctant to catch up and improve upon their basic services, especially in an era which is witnessing a global boom in tourism.
