Woman gives birth in flight...abandons baby?
There's a little controversy brewing over in New Zealand, where authorities are trying to figure out whether a woman who gave birth on a flight from Samoa to Auckland left her baby on board the plane intentionally.Reports differ. Some say the mother abandoned the newborn and walked off the plane. Others say she tried to go back to the plane for the baby (so, presumably, she merely forgot about it).
This happened on a Pacific Blue airline flight today.
It's also not known whether any of the crew noticed that the woman was in labor or had given birth. All the New Zealand Press Association says is that "the baby was found on the aircraft" after landing.
Both mother and child are recovering at an Auckland hospital as the investigation continues.

While the story may be true, the photo is definitely not. That is a picture of a realistic looking doll

How the hell do you "forget" your newborn???

It's very hard to believe that she got up and walked away from this baby. The hell that she went through would remind her alone. The baby needs to be taken away from her. And put in a caring ang loving home.

Maybe she just added up the cost of college and decided the pain wasn't worth it

Not to give an excuse but a thought....perhaps, just perhaps the birth was early and she was in shock what with the birth during the flight and did realixe that she had forgotten the child in her attempt to get care. If she had blood loss she could have been confused. Then again, if the leaving was intentional, lock her up and throw away the key. Real question is...will we find out what the situation is and what is decided?

When I deplane, I can remember if I took a pee or not. This woman went thru labor and gave birth and then forgot? Yeah, right.
Now, what about the "Buh-BY" group at the door? Why didn't they ask why she didn't have the kid. They obviously knew about it.

They said the flight attendants didn't know she gave birth...this to me means that she hid her labor so that no one would notice it was her who left the baby

Maybe this poor woman thought someone was going to help her carry the baby off the plane for her. Having a baby is a bit painful and traumatic. Considering the very valuable items passengers forget on plane this isn't far fetched.

Oh please I give birth and have babies in public bathrooms alllllllllllllllllll the time! I mean we've ALL been there, am I right ladies??? I'm sure I have offspring galore all across this country in bathrooms & reststops everywhere! Miss you kids!!!
melanie Mar 20th 2009 3:46PM
omg the flight attendants should have realized something was up when she carried a placenta off the plane
Pam Mar 20th 2009 4:17PM
Did anyone ever think that the poor woman just didn't have the cash for the extra passenger airfare or the the fine for a second carry-on with her.

As a nurse working in L&D i've seen many women react differently to giving birth. Some are excited and anxious to see thier new baby, some are extremely exhausted and have a sort of amnesia and although they are interested in their baby later, they need a bit of time to recover, especially if their birth was traumatic or unexpected, as giving birth on an airplane might have been. Let's not jump to conclusions because most of us have all given birth in a nice environment with family around for support, and maybe even a nurse there to provide you with pain medications and fluids to keep you from getting dehydrated.

I know. I just did it yesterday myself.

Was she alone on the plane? I mean, how could notice this woman was in labor? I've been in quite a few delivery rooms and its not only loud, but quite smelly and bloody too. Honestly, that confuses me more than this lady just walking off the plane without her kid.
