Thanks very much for the excellent interview, Jamie. I hadn't heard about Pico and his writing before and his sensible answers and the wisdom shared in so few lines clearly show that I have missed something.
I'm trying to find words to capture the essence of a place, its' atmosphere and architecture, what it evokes in me, almost every day. If you will it's part of my job as entrepreneur, building a platform that wants to give people this possibility to tell and share.
However it's not an easy task to find the right words to express all of this: it's a function of how much I'm consciously aware of my surroundings and what they mean to me (much mental focus needed) but also, and probably more importantly, how people who live there interact with this invisible fabric.
One of the places that is special to me and that I can imagine writing about is Coban in Guatemala. A village founded in the 1500s, situated in the high mountains of Guatemala; although dirty and loud it's a magic place and embodies the contrasts of Guatemala... it's also surrounded by a rich fauna.
... if you're curious where to found this platform I was talking about, check out the review here on Gadling: http://www.gadling.com/2009/02/07/tagcrumbs-are-places-worth-remembering/
