While walking in the 6th arr. in Paris, on a sunny winter day, we turn a corner and encounter a small girl wearing a black beret with long curly hair. Her grey wool coat looks as if it is buttoned over several layers. She is carrying two long baguettes wrapped in brown paper. There is a slight smile on her face. She is followed by an elderly lady pulling a wire cart filled with groceries. We imagined that it was the little girl's grandmother. The sidewalk was so narrow that we had to step into the street to let them pass. We uttered "Bon jour" and stood in silence and watched... the essence of living in Paris as we would want it to be.
