Daily deal - Toshiba 250GB portable hard drive for $65
My daily deal for this afternoon is for a Toshiba portable external hard drive.Besides being a really good deal, there are several other reasons why I think everyone who travels with their computer should invest in a portable drive.
For starters - the 250GB storage space should be enough to hold a backup of most of your important files. In addition to this, it can also make a safe place to store photos and videos you make on your trip, I know several people who made over 1000 photos, and lost every single one of them when their laptop hard drive crashed before arriving back home.
The best part about these portable drives is that they can be powered off the USB port of your laptop or desktop computer, which means you don't have to drag an additional power supply along with you.
Another great thing a large external drive can do, is add more storage space for music or video files - especially since many small laptop computers only come with limited space. You'll find this Toshiba 250GB portable hard drive on sale at Amazon for $65.85, which includes free shipping.

You can also get a 500GB portable external hard drive for $121.50 ... Slightly better deal!

I'm not entirely sure how that is a "better deal".
For starters, most people do not need 500GB on the road, then there is of course the price; Amazon lists multiple 500GB portable drives for as low as $98, making them much cheaper than the one you linked to, which actually appears to be a pretty bad deal.
Once you add shipping to that drive it is close to $130, twice the price of the 250GB drive linked to today and $30 more than the average external/portable 500GB drive on Amazon.

I see your point...
First of all let me say that I travel a lot and I would need 500GB on the road. Certainly if you're going to dish out $65 for the deal, then there are at least some people who would not mind dishing out an additional $30-$40 for more space... A road warrior needs to have as much space as possible... When you consider the amount of space RAW video files take up these days, it starts to accumulate
Second, I found the "deal" on a site yesterday and thought it was pretty good considering that some external, non-portable 500GB hard drives cost ~$100. But if there's a cheaper deal, then go for that. Double the storage for under double the price is certainly a bargain!
btw, could you link to the Amazon portable external hard drives?

Hard drives are excellent for backing up photos, videos, travel documents, etc. while traveling.
Be careful, though ... when pulled aside for extra screening, I've almost had my hard drive confiscated twice at high-security airports. It's very helpful to know a few words like "electronic storage" or "for computer" in the local language.
