Passengers take fun out of Southwest's supermodel airplane

Try to have a little bit of fun and those pesky passengers get all bent out of shape. Last month, Southwest Airlines joined up with Sports Illustrated to paint the side of one of their Boeing 737s with the image of Bar Rafaeli, an Israeli supermodel, in a white, two-piece swimsuit. It's a brief promotion aimed at promoting the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition and tickle a few passengers who happen to randomly be riding on (or near) the aircraft. Wouldn't your day get instantly better if you were waiting to take off at 7AM and saw a giant supermodel taxi past you?
But not everyone is as tickled as we are. A slew of passengers, many on Southwest's corporate blog are complaining about the paint job, equating the image to "soft porn." They want it taken down.
Think they're being ridiculous? Check out the gallery below. Think they're right? Read on:
Gallery: Southwest and Bar Refaeli
Southwest is just having a little bit of fun turning heads in the direction of their aircraft, but if you can't stand the sight of a pretty Israeli woman, cover your eyes or stop flying for the next couple of months until they repaint her. The promotion only lasts a few more weeks.

Silly. The people who consider this soft porn outta go back to travelling by their covered wagons.
MsMHS Mar 5th 2009 3:09PM
May I say this young man -- the days of the covered wagons actually made people speak to each other, look each other in the eye and occupy themselves and their time with hard work and increasing their knowledge of anything but sex. The problem today is everyone has to know everything about everybody and no one communicates verbally with others anymore. You see, I would much rather be looking you in the eye saying this than writing it on a computer screen.

Son, I agree with your statement about people not looking each other eye to eye. You seem to be making a large issue out of a silly little thing and reading way much more into an a/c paint job that seems to be there. The public clamor over how an ac is painted is seemingly much ado about nothing to me. Since the conestoga wagon was phased out of the american west sometime in the late 19th century, I'm surprised you have such a good memory.

These complainers can get another airline or move to Alabama or Afghanistan. Hard-core religious fundamentalism is fine for such as want it, but fundamentalists need to accommodate the rest of the world, not the other way around.

Instead of using sex to sell your flights why not try better rates and better service? Now that would get my attention!

Well, what a reaction from a girl on a plane. What did we do years ago before the age of internet and, more recently, blogs. I will tell you what we did.....SHUT THE HELL UP!!!!! keep your dumb comments to yourself. If Southwest feels this makes them money, well guess what, thats less we have to pay for a ticket. I love Southwest Airlines.....you go guys, put more stuff on the side.....yeahhhhh
Jordao Mar 5th 2009 2:58PM
In the title: it's 'Southwest' not 'Soutwest' as shown.
Lloyd Mar 5th 2009 2:57PM
I see nothing wrong with the painting. Those objecting probably have a body no one would want to see. Probably same people objecting to the Barbi doll.
Michael Mar 5th 2009 2:57PM
Come on People.....What is the BIG PROBLEM..It is just a woman in a bikini.....It si not like she is doing the Janet Jackson thing.....Get a life all of you UPTIGHTS........You are totally ridiculous and ignorant...
Sarah Mar 5th 2009 2:58PM
Cheap promotional sex. SW gets a big BOO from me.
Ann Mar 5th 2009 3:01PM
It is so funny that all the guys here are .."YEAH!! bring it on, nothing porn about HER!" and the women are ...."ditch the *itch." Hysterical!
Ann Mar 5th 2009 3:01PM
Come on Rev Ike, you are a real dash of ice water, hon.
Christine Mar 5th 2009 3:02PM
Isn't this the same airline that kicked a female passenger off a plane for not being dressed appropriately. Isn't that a little too faced?
Anita Mar 5th 2009 4:00PM
Another Barbie model to show off to the women and children?
Kevin Mar 5th 2009 3:05PM
First and foremost that is not even close to soft porn! However isn't this the same airline who would not let the lady fly because her skirt was too short?! HUH maybe she should have paid more and got her picture on the side of the plane!
MsMHS Mar 5th 2009 3:09PM
It just isn't necessary to have a woman in a bikini on an airplane for young boys and old men to ogle.
Michael Mar 5th 2009 6:11PM
Sure, gives them something to beat off to at night.
MsMHS Mar 6th 2009 11:54AM
Disgusting comment -- who raised you -- a dog?
chris Mar 5th 2009 3:08PM
How about having a beefy guy in a bulging jock strap painted on a plane?
Brian Mar 5th 2009 3:12PM
Amar are you kidding me a public plane. Last time I checked Southwest owns that plane not you and I. People are starting to distort public from private all due in part to the socialist doctrine being preached to us daily.
