More details on American access to North Korea in 2009
It may not be time to celebrate, but you can certainly be optimistic (with a dose of caution). Koryo Tours has received an update from its partners in North Korea about the upcoming Arirang (i.e., "Mass Games" event). The Mass Games are expected to be held in August and September – and could run into October (based on past experience). Koryo Tours is currently scheduling tours for westerners for this period.
Americans will be able to attend the event this year, but there are some restrictions. North Korea is expected to limit U.S. visits to four nights, and Americans will only be able to enter and exit the country by plane. But, Koryo Tours is willing to remain flexible in the event that longer stays are permitted. For guests who have already been to North Korea, the company is working on itineraries designed for repeat visitors.
Of course, this has not been confirmed yet, but Koryo Tours is confident based on how these developments have unfolded in the past. As we get more information, we'll be sure to pass it along
[Thanks, Koryo Tours]

I'm not sure why anyone would want to visit North Korea. For one thing, you would definitely not see the real North Korea with its starving people. You would be fed propaganda which depicts North Korea in a positive light and only visit approved areas, eat in designated tourist spots, and have no contact with locals. I have watched a few documentaries on North Korea and can only shake my head in bewilderment at how a country like this can exist in a modern world where even China is becoming ever more progressive.

You sure it's not the Mass Murder Games?

No they just want 2 size us up in case we go 2 war with them (WW3) , they want 2 know if we're the fat & lazy nation they so heard about & not the lean & mean nation they fought in the 50's

Well said Ann, that's about the size of it. That probably what alot of us will have go through our minds. You'd probably get to see and do more of that stuff you stated more unrestrictinly in Cuba!

Of course they will let us in now, Obamanomics policies are just as much based in communism as theirs are. They are just welcoming their new found comrades.

Who in their right mind would want to visit communist North Korea. You might look the wrong way at one of them and end up ther for a longer stay than the four night limit. The rich americans who do go aren't going to find any upscale hotels like ther used to.

Poster after poster passing judgement and anger on to people they've never met, who live in a place they've never been. The 21st Century might be the time to begin realizing the "other side" of the world isn't so far away as it used to seem, and that maybe it's time to work on getting along instead of getting the upper hand. It's like getting stuck ion an elevator (or on an island or in a family) with a bunch of people. No telling how long you're going to be in there together, or what you might need from each another. But hey, maybe you guys are right. Everyone "other" is the enemy.

Blue, normally I'd agree with you about all the zenophobic postings but come on... we're talking North Korea here. There's a REASON that nobody's been there. It's a self contained world under the absolute control of a megalomaniac.
ED Feb 14th 2009 4:02AM
THEY MIGHT LET US IN, BUT WOULD THEY LET US OUT?
bob Wong Feb 15th 2009 1:04AM

Seems like only yesterday that we feared and hated the Soviets. Now look at us, importing Russian women and marrying them off to all our lonely desparate losers. Soon enough we'll be importing N. Korean women by the boatload. Anyone with a job at McDonalds and a bag of rice at home can get a hook-up.
