Dirtiest Hotels in the United States
Hotels are filthy places. As fellow Gadling blogger Scott recently told us, hotel rooms aren't always cleaned as well as we would like. Imagine how many people have touched that television remote before you arrived. Or, for your sanity's sake, don't. And for the love of all that you consider holy, do not run a blacklight over your sheets and bedspread. But some hotels are filthier than others. And the folks at TripAdvisor have used reader reviews to compile their annual list of Dirtiest Hotels in the United States.
New York City (where I live) is home to two of the "top" three dirtiest hotels. Coming in at number one is the Hotel Carter and at number three is the New York Inn. The reader reviews for the Hotel Carter don't pull any punches.
Roaches, rats, mice, horrible smells, dirty sheets, horrifying bathrooms, outlets that hang out of walls...
This hotel was the filthiest, most unsanitary place I have seen ever. From the smell when you walk into the room to the plastic wrapped around the mattresses.
There are bed bugs in this hotel and you don´t easily see these bugs, but after one night you see the bites and they itch terribly for many days!
Welcome To Hell.
It could be worse than bed bugs, though. You could find a corpse under your bed, which a housekeeper at the Hotel Carter did in 2007. The upside to this story? It proves that they have housekeepers!

WOW YOU ALL HAVE HEARD NOTHING, DRIVING ACROSS COUNTRY FROM AZ TO MO. WE STOPPED AT A HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS. THE OWNERS WERE INDIAN. THEY ARE VERY FILTHY. FIRST ROOM HAD DRIED SPERM ON THE BLANKET WHICH I CUT OUT AND PUT IN A ZIPLOCK FOR PROOF LATER SINCE THERE WAS NO WAY I WAS GOING TO PAY 90.00 PER NIGHT FOR A DISGUSTING THING LIKE THIS. THEN WE WENT INTO THE BATHROOM AND THERE WAS 1/4 FILLED UP WITH FECES. FILLED I TELL YOU IT WAS GROSS. SO I WENT TO THE MGR AND THEY CHANGED OUR ROOM. AGAIN THE BATHROOM TOILET HAD FECES IN IT. I ASKED HOW OFTEN THE BLANKETS AND COMFORTERS WERE CLEANED AND THEY SAID ONCE EVERY FEW MONTHS. THAT IS DISGUSTING. HOLIDAY INN? NEVER AGAIN. BTW THE MGR DID KNOCK OFF 1/2 THE BILL SINCE I REFUSED TO PAY. WOULD HAVE LOVED TO HAVE SEEN THEIR FACES WHEN THEY SAW THE CUT UP BLANKETS LOL.

The worst hotel I ever stayed at was in detroit, mi. you walked in, and the carpet was peeling in the hallways. The first room we tried had mold in the shower, and smelled as though it had never been cleaned. the second room had the lock broken off the door, the drain didnt work in the shower, and cups and bottels were stored under the bed. I refused to get under the sheets after seeing some stains on them, and brought a pillow and blanket in from the car and slept under those on top of the blankets from the hotel. The entire place smelled like someone was constantly smoking something that was not cigarettes, and when we left our clothes smelled so bad we had to put them in plastic bags until we found a laundry mat

You should add this motel to your list:
Days Inn Conference Center York

I was to quick on the keyboard and never finished my comment on the Days Inn Conference Center York, PA. This motel is owned by a witch out of hell. We visit the York area twice a year. We had booked for two nights on the most recent stay. For openers the bathroom was clogged with a tird jammed in it. The room was filthy with mildew in the tub area. The lock on the sliding door to the patio did not work. Both my friend and I came down with a bad case of scabies. The Days Inn headquarters was of no help. This flea bag motel still flys the Days Inn banner. Stay as far away from it as possible.

I stayed at a Quality Inn in Greenville, SC back in Oct., the fire alarm went off all night and I had over a dozen bites from bed bugs. Two days ago I stayed at a Days Inn in Aberdeen Maryland and my arm is swollen, bed bugs strike again. I would have been better off sleeping in my car.

We flew into JFK and took the shuttle to the Marriott in Stamford Ct. I've stayed here numerous times and it's a very nice hotel. We checked in and went upstairs. By looking at what was used and what wasn't we immediately knew what had gone on. You could tell 2 employees had just had sex in there. The desk clerk came up and truly was disgusted and apologetic. We got upgraded and a free night.

Bushwick hospitality in Brooklyn has got to be the worst! It was my first tiime to the city and had been driving over 24hrs, it was around 5:00am, and silly me didnt reserve a place to stay before reaching the city. I just figured that I'd find one there. What a mistake! It was only a 4hr rental. There were piles of sheets and other things I had to step over before I even got to my room. Hard bed no working lights except the TV, which was playing porn as soon as I turned it on! 4hrs couldn't come fast enough!

TOP OF THE LIST
The Quody Hotel in Peoria, Illinois. The hotel has no working telephone in it. We (an ambulance crew) went there to take an elderly, sick parton to the hospital. The place was filthy, dirty and old junk in the hallway.
Several months later we were asked to investigate an "odd smell" in a patron's room. The same junk and trash was still in the hallway. The "patron" had been dead for days (weeks?) and was laying in a pool of leaking body fluids on a plastic covered mattress. I can not describe the smell. Actually, I could but then you'd vomit on your keyboard. Hey, they did have afforable rates and a vacancy.

I'd like to include the Econolodge in Atlanta, GA. The Hotel is shabby allround, old grubby furniture, bathrooms with loud fans and no breakfast to speak of. I'm glad I had only booked one night!
