Man gets off plane via exit door: Did he wait for the ding?
Don't try this at home.
When a Delta plane arriving from Salt Lake City landed in Phoenix yesterday, one man opened the emergency exit door at the back and got off by hopping off the wing. Or perhaps he climbed down? Regardless of how he got off, he was apprehended, naturally, and could be in bigger trouble than he anticipated.
To his credit, the plane was at the terminal already, and other passengers were beginning to exit the front like normal people do. It wasn't like he got off in the middle of the runway before the plane taxied to safety. People who apprehended him were runway personnel. One has to wonder what this guy was thinking and where he was going.
The man is old enough to know better--he is 37, but perhaps he was aiming to relive a school days experience when kids sometimes bolt off a school bus out the exit door. I remember that scenario happening on at least one occasion. It wasn't me.
Maybe all those people struggling to remove the carry-ons they brought on the plane with them to avoid checked baggage fees made him snap. [via FoxNews.com]

ok... this makes no sense. he broke no windows or property of any kind. caused no damage. he simply opened a door and exited a non moving plane with engines shut off. where's the crime in not waiting for a bunch of overweight slugos to waddle their way off the plane? first they give powers of arrest and title of government agent to air-waitresses (flight attendants) and now you can be arrested for exiting the plane via the rear door. because some waitress says you can't. thanks again Herr Bush!

Flying on commercial airlines is a P.I.T.A. BRING BACK THE TRAINS!

To the person who wrote this:
""It seems to me that you have not yet been subjected to the type of treatment on a plane that is maddening enough to pull the lever on the nearest exit door.....".
EVERY flight attendant has. It's called being delayed with a bunch of rude, obnoxious passengers who insist on ignoring crew instructions and safety procedures.
As for everyone whining about why he got arrested- placards on aircraft are considered a lawful instruction, disobeying them is legislated to be punishable by law. It;s not over the top, it;s there to stop idiots endangering others. Once that exit door is open that plane wasn''t going anywhere without returning to a hangar for inspection.
Emergency exits are just that- for EMERGENCIES. If it's so important that you be off the plane before everyone else, HIRE YOUR OWN PRIVATE JET. You know you might get stuck in a crowd when you book your ticket, don't use your own impatience to justify illegal acts.
And before you spout off, yes I am a flight attendant, so I am qualified to answer this post, and having gone through the training, I know a lot more about it than any passenger, no matter how frequently you fly. Until you've done the training, you don't know it all!

That idiot was just asking to be run over by a baggage cart or something. People who aren't airport employees don't belong out on the tarmac, period. I'm sure he was arrested and fined, which he deserved. If he exited that way because he was in a hurry, he found out that he only slowed himself down a lot more!
