Miami is the fattest city in America -- and here are 24 more

Last summer we wrote about Mississippi's three year reign as the fattest state in America.

Now, there's some new rankings out, covering the 25 most populated urban centers in the country. Men's Fitness magazine has just released what it is calling the 25 fattest cities in America. The winner? Miami, land of sun and fun and apparently no gym memberships.

Here are Men's Fitness' picks for the 10 fattest cities in America:
  1. Miami
  2. Oklahoma City
  3. San Antonio
  4. Las Vegas
  5. New York
  6. Houston
  7. El Paso
  8. Jacksonville
  9. Charlotte
  10. Louisville
And the rest:

11. Memphis
12. Detroit
13. Chicago
14. Dallas
15. San Jose
16. Tulsa
17. Baltimore
18. Columbus
19. Raleigh
20. Philadelphia
21. LA
22. Phoenix
23. Indianapolis
24. San Diego
25. Kansas City

The cities were ranked according to a number of criteria, including the availability of fitness studios (and the willingness of the population to use them); the prevalence of sports stores; overall participation in sports; amount of TV viewing; air quality; percentage of the population that is overweight or sedentary; and the availability of fast and junk food.

Of course, with any ranking of this nature there is a corollary: Men's Fitness has also ranked what it says are the 25 fittest cities in America. Not surprisingly, Salt Lake City, home of great skiing and no alcohol, takes top prize.
