Actually their lists of reasoning behind the opposition is quite lengthy and full of really valid points.
I suspect if someone was interested in finding it there would be a workaround possible. Heathrow could purchase some natural reserve land, about 4 or 5x the size of the development land. Additionally a % of the easement costs (probably less than the legal fees at the end of this) would go to rail improvement in the area. Tack on some eco-friendly building restrictions, and maybe some clean energy generating use of the new land and we may be good to go.
No one ever seems to propose compromises these days. Just one side bullying and the other protesting.
