Concierge.com names Tel Aviv #1 must see destination of 09
Many of the top destinations on Concierge.com's 2009 "It" list may surprise you, starting with their number one pick: Tel Aviv. At they pitch it, however, Israel's second largest city and economic hub sounds glorious:"...this newly hip city has plenty to celebrate, with a spate of new hotels and redevelopment, a happening contemporary art scene, and vibrant nightlife. Unlike more religious and conservative Jerusalem, Tel Aviv hasn't seen a serious terrorist incident in years, and is the poster child for a more modern Israel"
Sound like it's worth taking a visit? If you're in the neighborhood, you might as well stop by number 10 on the list: Beirut, Lebanon. That's right, the city still recovering from the 2006 Lebanon War has rebounded well enough to be included on this year's It list as well.
Other top contenders?
- Tel Aviv, Israel
- Bolivia
- Utah
- Acapulco, Mexico
- Vilnius, Lithuania
- Central Philippines
- New York City
- Rajasthan, India
- Toronto, Canada
- Beirut, Lebanon

Tel Aviv is one of the most-expensive cities to visit... a tourist now needs to bring at least two suitcases: one with clothes and other personal necessities and the second suitcase filled with cash.
While Tel Aviv is a wonderful and very modern city, visiting and sight-seeing (Jerusalem offers much more) the city is not cheap and comparable to visiting Washington, DC.
This bubbly item is total hyped-up bullshit.

Swell place IF you don't mind the fact that its oh-so-hip residents' taxes and army service ensure that millions of its Palestinian neighbors live in squalor, under a horrifying military occupation. Oh, and rude residents, filth, appallingly dangerous driving and hideous art/architecture/"couture". Wraparound sunglasses on hopelessly jaded and blase Oblivions, stolen cuisine, boringly bared bellies? Mm-mm-mm....You can have it.

Israel as a whole is probably one of the most beautiful places on earth. I would not suggest Tel Aviv, I would suggest Jerusalem. Maybe if we made those terrorists living in squalor move into the that other commenters backyard, Jerusalem could be number ONE. Where it belongs
