Great post Karen. You had me fooled on two out of three of those SLR vs. Point and Shoot pictures.
I get the most from a rather basic Canon Digital Rebel in the low light situations. Recently, I shot some pictures inside a simulator with the new Panasonic LX3 that features an F/2.0 lens, but it still didn't match the DSLR pictures I took under the same conditions a few months earlier.

But for outdoor shots, I think it's much harder to notice the difference. But having the choice in lenses is where the DSLR really shines.
