In my office, there is a habit of finding an unlocked computer and sending some sort of embarrassing message to the entire department (over 100 people) from that person's email account. Typically it revolves around their recent relationships (or lack of) or even something as simple as "I look hot today, come check out my jeans." Always makes for an interesting day, especially when a bunch come when a whole group heads off for a meeting when they forget to lock their computers.

Well, it wasn't embarrassing for me, personally - around this time last year I unexpectedly lost my job to "downsizing." At the time, I sent e-mail to everyone I could think of to tell them what happened - and why I was not going to be at the office the next day - and I got a Very Personal reply back from a coworker, about how wrong it was that I was being let go, what were they (the company) thinking, etc. The thing was, she inadvertently hit "Reply all" and sent that mail to A LOT of people at the company - she tried to use the "recall" feature to get the message back, but by then, it was too late. Her feelings were well documented! It was nice to feel missed. - jason

My most embarrasing email is when i sent an email to 'A' stating how 'B' needs to work harder in the office. Accidentally, I somehow sent the email to 'B' as well. 'B' stopped in my office to ask what the issue is and I eventually caught on. I caught so much flak from the two of them. Although it awkward, the problem went away.

My freshman year of college I sent an email to a friend about gushing on & on about how cute the boy upstairs from my dorm was...unfortunately I accidently sent it to my ex-boyfriend from high school. He was crushed, and I always check my "to" field from now on! This gadget sure would help with that! =)

I think I've sent a few poorly written notes to my boyfriend then cc'd friends on accident as well, but nothing really exciting.
Instead, I got a text once with someone breaking up with their girlfriend - and my boyfriend was walking with me at the time.

Once in lower school, we were talking about our latin teacher's really, really bad body odor in school on our school email system. We ALL were saying really bad thing about him and all other teachers. Except we forgot he had access to all emails. We did it during a break WHILE he was checking the server. That was a bad, bad day. Or for that matter,Year. The problem was that I said something very bad about a teacher and gave a lot of bad links to everyone in the system like how t hack it, etc. Ahhh Good Times........

I for some odd reason signed up for the social network Bebo.com and it's asks me to enter my e-mail info so it can see if there are people in my address book on bebo. Turns out it sent an invite e-mail to all my co-workers, fellow students, family, and friends. All of whom were like why do you want me to sign up for this. So I had to explain to all of them that it was some terrible site that e-mailed them without my consent. BTW don't go to bebo.com, terrible.

Once sent an e-mail to a friend telling her that I had a crush on her. She didn't feel the same way. Oddly enough, she'll soon be my sister-in-law as her sister and I have been together for 3 years.

I sent an email pretty much trashing a person to that person instead of the intended receiver. Thank goodness I was able to recall it before it was read. Taught me a lesson though.

I count myself very fortunate. I have no regrets to share.

I've been pretty well behaved on email. My email gaffes tend to involve forgetting to respond to someone and then looking like a jerk.

This is one I have received - luckily no majorly embarrassing sends, yet. I'm part of a email group and many of the people do not know each other. Some do though. One person posted and another replied to the group instead of the individual, revealing some very personal information. I think he soon realized what happen and sent another email out, in GIANT LETTERS telling everyone not to read the first one. I'm sure that drew even more people's attention to the first email.

In a previous job our company was running contract and invoice fraud on one of our clients to the tune of $15,000/month. Imagine the egg on my face when I, by accident, sent a tell-all email - intended for one of my colleagues - to the client's brand manager! LOL!
(BTW - don't get all preachy and judgmental to anyone reading this, the whole situation was eventually sorted out and we had to pay back the money.)

I definitely learned the lesson of locking my computer during lunch and breaks when an email that was supposedly sent by me which contained very inappropriate content, made it's way to the department. Thankfully I was sent on an out of office errand, and the receipts documented my time and that I couldn't have possibly been at my desk when the email was sent. Even though I didn't do it, I was very embarassed by it, and very angry, I also thought to myself, what else is this person capable of, theft? thankfully I had my wallet with me!
