You never know. You might be staying at one of those campgrounds were you have to, I dunno, WALK from your tent to the toilet! Imagine that! Most campground toilets are reasonably warm or at least sheltered from the wind; it's the walk that freezes you.
Also useful for that time after you get really cold but before you're ready for bed. And very, very useful for people like me who sleep in hammock tents. Maybe it's not your thing, and it definitely won't get you style points, but I'd hardly call it idiotic.
