I have a lot of experience with film SLR but never made the jump to digital SLR. Until I really get into photography again I don't really want to spend the money for the full setup of digital SLR equipment. Unfortunately, outside of the body and one lens, I no longer have my film SLR equipment.
I find a good compromise the long zoom model of point and shoot that every brand has. In my case it is the Canon S5, it has a longer zoom and can be ran totally manually if I want to adjust shots. I also have a small 3x zoom point and shoot (Canon sd600) that is great to just throw in the pocket for discreet or fun photos.
