Alitalia flight nearly collides with a UFO

Britain's National Archives are releasing nearly two dozen previously classified military documents detailing close encounters with UFOs from 1986 to 1992.

In perhaps the most noteworthy incident, there's a report that in 1991 an Alitalia flight bound for Heathrow nearly collided with a "brown missile-shaped object," which shot just over the plane's head, causing the pilot to yell "look out" to his co-pilot, the BBC reports.

Britain's Aviation Authority and its ministry of defense investigated the matter and concluded that the object was not a missile, a weather balloon or a space rocket. They filed the case away as unexplainable.

Another document recently released is a recounting from a US Air Force pilot, who says he was ordered to shoot down a UFO over England after it appeared on his radar.

The ministry of defense plans to release some 200 documents about UFO encounters during the next four years, the BBC reports.
