Drunk Man Tries to Hijack Turkish Airlines Flight
A man on a Turkish Airlines flight from the resort town of Antalya, Turkey to the Russian city of St. Petersburg threatened to blow up the plane unless it was diverted. The man, who appeared to be drunk, approached a flight attendant and handed her a note to give to the pilot: "I have a bomb. If you don't take me in (the cockpit) I will blow it up," As he stumbled toward the front of the plane, he was overpowered by passengers. No explosives were found despite his insistence that there was a bomb strapped on his body. He appeared so inebriated that passengers did not take him seriously. Turkish journalists have reported that the man was an Uzbek national, but his identity and true nationality have not yet been confirmed. After he was subdued, the plane continued on to its destination, though Turkish Airlines officials briefly considered setting it down immediately as a precaution. There were 167 passengers on board the aircraft, an Airbus A-320.

To this day I still don't understand why the people on the flights on 9/11 didn't overpower the hijackers as soon as they realized something was wrong. The hijackers only had boxcutters for pete sakes. I'll never understand it. I think that they thought it was just a normal hijacking situation the way it used to be years ago. Who would have thought they would have used the planes as bombs!

Before 9/11, hijacking meant that you were either going to Cuba, or going to land at the nearest airport. Either one meant that you were going to survive, just be late to where you were going. Hijacking never meant that we are going to crash this plane and kill ourselves. The people on the 9/11 planes would have honestly believed that they were going to survive. Post 9/11, as passengers, we never make that assumption.

And exactly WHY do they still serve alcohol on airplanes??? If someone can not go 3-4 hrs withour having a drinkl then maybe instead of flying somewhere they should check themselves into rehab. Let the rest of civilized society enjoy our flight.

It was just a misinterpretation. It his country BOMB is slang for PENIS. Think of it that way and it all makes sense.

If I were on that flight subdued would have meant both arms and legs were broken.

This is silly but if he was drunk why did they even let him on the plane to BEGIN with ??? Tell these people to go somewhere and sober up and they can catch the next flight ? Duhhh ?

thanks god no box cutters b/c the plane would of been highjacked....a man with a box cutter is less scarier than a man with a bomb...sounds unusually!!!!!

I don't drink but I am not a teetotler. There should be no alcohol beverages allowed or served on planes. Our civilization has forgotten how to be civilized. The average seems not to respect or consider strangers, neighbors etc. I don't know what the answer is with the individual on the Turkish airliner and I will not prejudge but I hope the authorities will deal with him in the manner appropriate for his actions.

If he was that drunk why did they let him on board the plane. They check everything take off shoes and they don't notice this idiot was loaded.

HOW IN THE HELL DID AN OBAMA SUPPORTER GET THAT FAR AWAY????
Evelyn Oct 15th 2008 11:36PM
The thing that made the 9/11 attacks so incredible was that they violated the basic instinct of humans to live. The fact the hijackers were willing to die so violently for their religious or political agendas was something that no one could have predicted. Too bad we never got the chance to witness their disappointment when the promise of all those virgins didn't materialize!!

His note might also have read: "I AM BOMBED"

This guy must have been really loaded out of his mind. Even a moron would know that after 9/11 there would be no more plane hijackings. And we are wasting money hiring Air Marshalls because every passenger and crew member on board that plane becomes one, once a hijacker declares his position. In this day and age, and with the memory of 9/11 firmly imbedded in everybody's mind, I doubt any hijacker will ever take over an airplane without first having his butt kicked by the passengers.
