Disney Cruise Line heads to new waters in 2010
I've never been on a Disney Cruise. I have a couple of relatives who say a Disney Cruise is the best thing since sliced bread. Not really, but they've shown me the pictures of their swell time.
Disney is expanding its repertoire of offerings in 2010. Booking starts today, October, 14, for cruises to St. Petersburg, Russia; Tunis, Tunisia; Malta; and Corsica. There are several options.
One of the most involved, the 12-night cruise that heads to St. Petersburg, starts and ends in Dover, England and makes stops in Oslo, Copenhagen, Stockholm and Warnemunde, Germany. Each stop involves a day on shore, except for St. Petersburg which includes a day-trip to Moscow if you want.
After watching the video at Disney Cruise's web site, I'd say that for people who want to travel with their children, but who don't necessarily want to spend every waking moment sightseeing with their darlings, this type of cruise would be an option--not a cheap option, mind you, but an option.
Activities that are country specific are organized for different ages. Of course, with all the real castles that abound, dressing up like a princess (or a prince) and having a party where real royalty whooped it up is part of the offerings. I'd just as soon duck out of that party and look around on my own, but I bet that's allowed as long as you make it back to port on time.
Evidently, Mickey Mouse even tags along making appearances at famous landmarks. Not really, but Mikey is in the video frolicking with kids at the Red Square in Moscow.

Our son was 16 months old when we adopted him from Orphanage # 3 in Moscow. My son has always known about it (as he got older we told him ALMOST as much as we thought he should know). He is 8 yrs old now. When he is 13 he will be having his Bar Mitzvah. He has been asking us if for his Bar Mitzvah present, if we could visit Mscow so that "I can see where I came from and compare it with the life you and Daddy are giving me here." Yes he is only 8!!! What a great present this would be!! Disney PLUS seeing where he was from and walking through Moscow as we did when he was a toddler. Just wish they had more days in Moscow, since that is where we were. But it sure has planted the seed of the gift in our brains!!

Andrea, have a great time and remember one thing, when in Rome, do as the Romans do, meaning, make sure you take the time to stop and smell the roses.

I heard that lucky visitors cCombine wining, dining and sightseeing on one of the dinner cruises down the canals. I hear they are illuminated canals.
What better way to spend the evening in Amsterdam?
During the day - - - visit the triangle and flower mart- - - and rent a bike and tour the city!

Trust me you will see Mickey Mouse up close and personal every day.

Nothing wrong with having more cruising options. We did this very cruise with another cruise line when my daughter was 2 1/2 years old in 2005. We had a great time and it was our favorite cruise so far. St Petersburg is so beautiful, and the history you get from all the different ports makes this so worth the price.

Andrea,
I say go for it. I think this kind of trip would be a good first trip to visit Russia. Go back for a more detailed trip when he's older. I have daughter who is adopted from another country as well.
