I lived in a small suburb of Cairo for a year, and when we first moved there I was so sick I couldn't get out of bed for a month -- other than to rush to the restroom to vomit. Doctors said it was a heat allergy (we had moved from comparatively cool Iowa); others thought it might be something I ate.
I'm not sure what it was, but I DO remember getting a shot at the local hospital with *the same needle* as the patron in front of me. That was 1985, and I'm happy to report I'm disease-free, despite that health care worker's best intentions. Even as a kid, I knew I shouldn't be sharing needles with other hospital guests! She moved so fast, though, it was impossible to refuse that needle. Eesh!
