I'm so glad you wrote about this! There's one close to my house at the local library.... I love spotting them around town. Even us locals forget to look for them sometimes :)

Dray horses were used in downtown Portland as late as 1934 to haul freight from the water front to uptown addresses. As a boy I remember these sights. The teams and their wagons were a haZard for moor traffic and we tended to bypass the sections of town that the teams were used in.
