American city with the ugliest locals? Philadelphia
Travel + Leisure magazine has just published its annual "America's Favorite Cities" survey, which ranks U.S. metropolises in a variety of a categories, from food, nightlife and public transportation to quality of life, shopping and, yes, the attractiveness of the local population.Of course, of the 25 cities surveyed, somebody has to come in last in the categories, and in the "attractiveness" category, the City of Brotherly Love finishes 25th. Philly also finished second to last for "stylish locals," which I suppose is somewhat related, and dead last as a destination for "active people."
Ouch. But Philly has company: New Orleans, Atlanta, Orlando, Washington, D.C., San Antonio, Santa Fe, Dallas, Boston and Chicago rounded out the cities with the least attractive populations.
The converse?
T+L readers ranked Miami as having the most attractive locals. San Diego, Austin, Charleston, Honolulu, L.A., San Francisco, Minneapolis, New York and Denver complete the top 10 in that category.
See how the cities compared in other categories here.

Spokane, WA has the most unattractive people. They need more sunlight in their seasons. On a business trip, I felt way out of place, especially in WalMart.

OK - Sweetheart, DON't EVER GO BACK TO WALMART!!
You have one hell of a smart brain in your head - and a smart head in your skull!! You have to be aware of the horrible tactics that Wal-Mart creates - against good hearted people!! PLEASE - don't patronize any Walmart, whatsoever!!! Learn the thruth. Get rid of their stupid, corporate lies - and, PLEASE - come out on the other side as the warm, informed, knowledable person that you have always been - and that I've picked up from you during our limited correspondence!! Give yourself credit for having a good heart, for not wishing ill onto other people you may disagree with (my biggest personal trouble). And let your love go - to everyone that may be reading this - as terribly corny as it may sound - that is truly just ONE WAY of following your heart!

The people of Philadelphia have aiways acted very stoppieded ,games etc , and they call this the city of bortherly love. NOT.

First, Philadelphia is NOT a state. Secondly, and unfortunately, its folks have some of the worst attitudes in the country. And please, don't tell me how great it is. I live in Colorado, and when asked where I'm from, I say, "Smellydelphia, and 2,000 miles is about the right distance to be from it."

Atlanta-most beautiful and most plentiful women in U.S.
Chicago has gorgeous women too.
Ask people who travel a great deal.

This survey nailed it. Philadelphia may produce a cheese steak, but the city itself is a dump. I don't know so much about ugliest people, but the denizens of philly are the most unpleasant people I have met anywhere-and I include Paris, France in that list.

After reading this I agreed because I have lived in Philly, Orlando and now reside in Atlanta. I thought they were right because using the word ugly, in this article, was used to refer to peoples attitudes. After reading the article again I realized they were using the word for unattractive and that is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. People who live in major cities are quite abrasive because they have to deal with more people, more crime, etc. If im going on vacation I could give a rats behind what the people look like.

Totally subjective in my book. I've travelled across the country many, many times and would disagree with this list. NYC/state is my favorite for women, closely followed by all the south (Atlanta, Charleston, Asheville, Raleigh). There are very few women out west who can compare to the southern belles. As for stylish locals I cant believe Philly is this low. I knew lots of hip kids from Philly from Phish tours and there is all kinds of good music that rolls through.

I say the below fully acknowledging that Miami finished No. 1 despite my own funny-looking visage.
Back when my job required travel to most of North America's major cities at least once and usually several times a year, it was common to hear, "What do you call a good-looking woman in Philly? A tourist." Great city in a lot of ways, but not exactly packed with aesthetically-pleasing people. We also were amazed at how Boston seemed to beat down so many attractive women of college and early post-college age into scowling middle-aged frumps who made you want to ban all skirts above the ankle.
And as several people pointed out, hard to argue racial bias when Miami-Dade County is over 60 percent Hispanic (if you count the legal and illegal) and racially-mixed couples and kids are pretty common. In fact, in South Beach, still a heavy club area popular with tourists but also a big affluent resident family area since the late 1990s, the kid with two Non-Latin, Non-Jewish White parents is a rarity.

The attractiveness survey reeks of junior high school shenanigans. I expect more from Travel and Leisure.

Philadelphia, the city where, just recently, a man riding the subway home from work was beaten with a hammer by another man, while ten more grown men stood by and did nothing to stop it. One of them, however, DID have the courage and presence of mind to steal the victims dropped cell phone and sell it for a hundred and fifty dollars.
We're ugly in more ways than one...

To the classy person...DJ.. who claimed that it, the unattractiveness, must have something to do with "British ancestry"...you are a low-class, immature, obviously uneducated and complete moron. The UK is absolutely gorgeous and full of people who are just that. Deal with it.

Okay..Okay. I live in Atlanta and I have to say I have seen some attractive people here especially here in Midtown area as well as Buckhead and even Dunwoody. Downtown, Decatur, and area out near the airport..maybe not so much. And I am talking blacks and whites-not judging on race. I also have to disagree with San Diego being named as the most attractive. I love the city though, its beautiful. And Chicago have beautiful people as well. I am not surprised that Miami and New York made the most attractive list. However, how fair is that-most of the people who live there are not originally from those places. But I guess that could be said about anywhere-especially NY and LA were many of the "beautiful" people relocate to get in the entertainment industry. Sorry, I was recently in Philly for the frist time the other week, and I have to agree. Also the city is somewhat filthy, although I undertstand it has come a long way and still changing.

New Orleans?! Dallas?! Washington D.C.?! Chicago?! Atlanta?! These cities should have been in the top 10 for beauty. Minneapolis, Denver, & Charleston in the top 10 for beauty - over the above listed ones?! These lists are a joke. I've personally been to all of the named cities. I can go into a McDonalds, Walgreens, or Walmart in the cities with the supposed ugly locals and find a higher ratio of attractive people than in any of the nightclubs in some of the cities on the beauty list. These lists are most definitely an individual's opinion and not shared by the masses.

I live in Miami and the only thing hot about this place is the weather. And as far as it being diverese and a melting pot, it is so far from it. The only thing diverese about this place is the different people from all the latin countries around here.
Just my thoughts.
P.S.
I grew up in Miami. I'm not some visitor just so you know.

As is so often the case, I suspect "Miami" and "Miami Beach" are being used interchangeably when, in fact, they are two distinct and very different entities. No shortage of beautiful people on the Beach; that's where the young, hip, and relatively wealthy congregate. In Miami itself, however, I've often noticed quite a distinct difference from other cities in which I've lived (most notably Chicago) in the overall attractiveness of the locals one encounters at the supermarket, dry cleaners, etc. Perhaps too much time spent on the causeway getting to the Beach has taken its toll!
Sonya Sep 17th 2008 10:44AM
This is complete non sense. I can honestly say that I'm gorgeous and live in Philadelphia. Obviously the writers haven't spent any time observing the streets of Philadelphia. We have a lot to offer in the looks department.

Im From The UK, England, Wales actually, and i find it offensive that some comments left are saying how ugly britain is,
Yes its not the most beautiful place in the world, but neather is the USA. I'm not ugly, ive entered beauty pagents since i was 15 years old, so i know im not ugly and i know some very beautiful and attractive people, so to hear that is just completly ridiculous to be honest !
:)
