Mount Tambora's eruption in 1815 in Indonesia was more powerful than Krakatau. It killed 72,000 within days and is believed to have been the cause of death of over 50,000 more throughout the next year. There was no summer in Europe and North America in 1816 with documented frosts in July and August. It has the nickname "Pompeii of the East."
